BS partly explained it at the end of ep18. It was the Contemplation Stone that brought them to the realm of resentment. It was also due to the power of the Contemplation Stone that allowed MJ to survive after FY changed MJ's fate. When he was born 1000 years ago, he remained as a baby for 200 years therefore CM thought to put the weak water stone in him to allow him gain spiritual power to be able to grow. As for how he was alive and about when they went to the realm of resentment, don't think too deeply about it. There were some discussions in the comments that it's xianxia logic, parallel universe, etc.

Did anyone notice the similarity of YQ to BJ in ALP in terms of how they were the ones that pushed their love one to their death. BJ propelled for SG to increase her cultivation but it only pushed her closer to her fated sacrifice by cultivating her chaos power which was necessary for her sacrifice to attain peace. Whereas YQ pushed AY away allowing others to take advantage of her and taking away all her hope in the world till death was all she could ask for. What SG and AY wanted for their sacrifice was peace for all the realms which BJ and YQ will fight to keep. They both had good intentions to protect their loved ones but it all backfired leading them to regret and spend the rest of their lifetime trying to make up for it. Not sure how the series TLI will play out but won't be surprised if YQ ends up following BJ's footsteps in sacrificing himself silently.
