A Meaningful Journey that is Heartwrenching!!

This is the story of a deposed teenage king, stuck in a village, unaware of his untimely demise!!

Set in the 15th century, “The King’s Warden” imbues a story of friendship between a deposed king and a humble village chief. The movie dwells deeper into their relationship as each of them comes to terms with the King’s unlikely death. Park Ji Hoon embodies the sickly, weak teenage King Lee Hong Ui who was later demoted to Prince Nosan and exiled to Cheongnyeongpo, Yeongwol. The small village barely has the necessary facilities to house a deposed monarch. The scheming minister, Han Myeong Hoe sends the deposed King to that small village hoping he will commit suicide. Unbeknownst to him, the villagers rekindle his desire to live and protect his subjects. As he rises in rebellion, Han Myeong Hoe uses this pretext to execute him. As you follow Prince Nosan’s journey with the villagers, you comprehend his kind nature and his protective nature. He is humble and loves spending time with the illiterate villagers, as he teaches him.

One of the Best Fantasy Romances in a Long Time!!

It is a blessing if you find someone who loves you selflessly, without any expectations!!

The story leans more towards self discovery rather than just romance. Two individuals from different walks of life meet, connect with each other, face impossible situations and ultimately fall in love. One is a mortal, whilst the other is a spirit. The chances of them falling in love is a rarity. Starring Dilraba Dilmurat & Arthur Chen in lead roles, “Love beyond the Grave” is a love story that challenges time, tide and extends beyond that. Dilraba stars in never-seen-before role, as the Sovereign of Spirits; rather cold hearted and ruthless, she rules the Void with an iron fist. Arthus stars as Duan Xu, a young general who is trying to find his standing, so he can win over the territories seized by their enemy empire. They meet under unexpected circumstances and gravitate towards each other. Their romance is fraught with struggles, yearning and absolute longing.

Was Well Initially But The Ending was Disappointing!!

Have you ever sat through a show and felt that the execution was faulty!!

After having watched Ji Sung in “The Devil’s Judge”, I was perhaps expecting some herculean level of antics from his character. For most parts, his character Lee Han Young does stick to the narrative. For most parts, I guess. The storytelling is intriguing, the fantasy part that helps in transmigration is never explained, but Lee Han Young uses his second chance at life quiet lucidly. The way, he plots, schemes and flawlessly levels up with the main antagonist is astonishingly entertaining. I was thoroughly invested in there dynamics and Han Young’s so-called revenge. The only disappointing part was the ending, it seemed rushed and abrupt.

Hyun Bin's Best Work Till Date, Obviously!!

This show is political espionage that is equal parts thrilling & disappointing!

Hyun Bin delivers the most consistent yet heinous villain in existence. Yes, for those unaware, he plays an antagonistic with a screwed moral compass. He is brash, bold and determined to make money; he wants to own power and make his life more comfortable. None of his actions make sense, he is questionable, and he is a certified terrorist parading as a member of KCIA. I have no idea of how KCIA worked in that era, or how much more power it held over the prosecution; but from start to end, the show is a personal revenge saga between a KCIA agent and a prosecutor. Meth smuggling is just the pretext; it is a chess game, played by both sides. While Hyun Bin gives a believable performance as a flawed KCIA agent, it is Jung Woo Sung who wins your heart. Jang Gun Yeong is persistently determined to dealing with meth dealers, no matter who they are.

Not A Complete Disaster But Somehow Close to That!

This show started in a good way, plummeted in the middle & ended in a phenomenal manner!

This is one of those shows that starts with a delicious, rather sultry. Our main leads dive into “Dynamite Kiss” right off the bat. Their chemistry screams sexy, even though they have just met. They try to date, end up in bed; but the female protagonist has to run back home, because of an emergency. The male lead searches for her on the entire Korean subcontinent, only to find her working in his father’s company-the twist, she is married with a son. Frankly, she isn’t; she only lied to get the job, but the male lead doesn’t know that. So, he sulks *rightly so* because he believes that she deceived him. She heaves and helms, tries to cajole him and both end up falling in love all over again; before he discovers that she is actually UNMARRIED. The freaking joke carries on for too long; it drags on for almost ten episodes. So, you lose focus on the subject at hand, quite a few times.

A Master Negotiator at his Best!!!

“The best move you can make in negotiation is to think of an incentive the other person hasn’t even thought of – and then meet it.” –Eli Broad

Shin Jay might very well agree with this concept, for most of his negotiations are tactile, rather than emotional. I didn’t know what to expect when I first started this show; obviously it was the casting that pulled me to this mystery comedy. The first episode delivered on the right dose of mystique and humor; needless to say, I was hooked. On the surface, Shin Jay looks like a normal chicken shop owner; grumpy during work hours. But underneath he hides his persona well- that is of a master negotiator who is well versed at the science of negotiation. Alongside, we have Cho Philip, a newly minted Judge joins him, it is chaos and happy times. The first half of the show alludes to the concept of negotiation whereby Mr. Shin uses his brilliant tricks to manipulate people into amicable settlements, most of the time that is. The second half focuses on the personal baggage that Shin Jay has been carrying for a long time; his struggles & fears that have been hidden under his bright demeanor. The show focuses on righting the wrongs and offering comfort to poor people who are agonized by the rich.

One of the Most Entertaining Watch in 2025!

If you need to understand what “A Dream within a Dream” means then you need to refer to the finale episode, because this drama is a complicated mesh of fatale screenwriting!

In a complicated world where the female lead is destined to be killed by her lover, it would be obscure to be with the same guy. So, Song Xiao Yu’s logic is sound; she is a lesser known actress in the modern era who inevitably gets transported into the very fictional world where she plays the tragic female lead. Only her character is destined to be tortured by the male lead who is unforgivable and ruthless. Xiao Yu decides to escape the destined fate and thus begins a cat & mouse game. Since she knows the “Script”, she tries hundreds of methods to stay away from the villainous male lead, Nan Heng. Unfortunately, she keeps getting pulled into situations where she is pitted against Nan Heng, she can’t escape him or her fate. The main leads are hilarious and have a charm of their own. Song Xiao Yu is chaotic & eccentric; Nan Heng is perceived as a ruthless character but is majorly misunderstood. You slowly fall for both these characters, especially Nan Heng and there is no way out!

Love the Romance, Gourmet, Everything!!!

Once in a while, you come across a show that is wholesome and entertaining!

Genie TV’s “Tastefully Yours” is one such show; premiering on the Monday- Tuesday block, it quickly became my favorite part of the week. The storyline seems ordinary, but rather the storytelling is unique and the characters are immersive. It has been long since I watched such an amazing camaraderie between the characters, it mainly hinges on the “Found Family” concept; albeit with a gourmet twist. I enjoyed each and every minute of this meaningful journey and I’m actually sad at bidding farewell to this show. Actor Kang Ha Neul was actually a surprise, his role has a comic flair that isn’t easy. Han Beom U has a painful backstory which he tries to hide with his humor. Mo Yeon Ju has an equally intriguing backdrop and even though their personalities clash, they make a riveting pair.

Biggest Disappointment of this Year!!

This was a boring, cliche harem styled romance that I wanted to get done with; I could finish this entire review in this one line!

This is one of those shows that starts in a promising way, forgets itself in the middle and lands in a puddle towards the end. By the end of the first half, you don’t mind question yourself about the purpose of watching this show. For me, it was the sole desire to watch it till the end and I persevered. Regrettably, the show falls back on its intend- the premise being quickly forgotten. Bunny, a top sculpture student at Yein University, once believed personality mattered more than looks—until a failed relationship left her embarrassed and insecure. Now, she admits to liking good-looking men but struggles with self-esteem. You might question this logical conclusion- because not all good-looking men are actually good, nor bad looking men are that bad. So how Bani comes to this illogical conclusion that changes her life forever forms the cruz of this show. Then we are taken on a journey of 12 episodes where Bani falls for every handsome man in her Campus before finally settling down with the most handsome one albeit also the most grumpy of them all. Her inner monologues will leave you hilariously satisfied, so there’s that!

An Entertaining Watch if you know the Nuances of Stock Trading!

If you are into stock trading, then you could learn a lot from this show; it isn’t just about saving a company from bankruptcy!

I admit that I wasn’t exactly enamored by this show after watching the pilot episodes; I failed to understand its charm. The slow pacing does take a lot away from the storytelling but gradually the characters grown on you: especially Yun Ju No. Infamous as the “White Snake”, everyone in the company is awry of him. The company directors believe that he is here to get him fired while the Group Chairman doesn’t take him seriously. Caught in the midst of these almost comical characters, Yun Ju No is tasked with the impossible task of saving Sanin Group from bankruptcy. He tries his best while secretly investigating the reasons that pushed his brother to suicide. “The Art of Negotiation” just doesn’t focus on his negotiation skills, it is more than that. Yun Ju No has a humane touch in most negotiations, unlike the cutthroat persona that his peers have build for him. He is competent but sadly misunderstood and misjudged.

Quite Rushed Finale, Do We Have to Wait for S2??

Istg, with the number of ups and downs, twists and turns that this show had, I still don’t know if I liked it or hated it!

At its heart, “Buried Hearts” is a tangled mess of distorted truth, messy relationships and one ruthless man seeking to overpower everyone. Yeom Jang Seon lives and breathes money and power, he has no other motivation, and he is more inclined to die himself than give up on either. Park Hyung Sik’s Seo Dong Ju makes a perfect archrival, they are on par when it comes to being ruthless or unapologetic. While Dong Ju seeks peace, Jang Seon is out for blood; mostly because Dong Ju is the only factor he could never control. And Jang Seon doesn’t like uncontrollable factors, he rather loathes; in every game he plays, endeavors to be the King. This show is a game of chess between these two men who in their own way control powerful dynasties, literally. In between, we are taken on a brief detour to the past where we unravel Dong Ju’s rather complicated memories. Frankly, this show was like a roller coaster ride, you never know what will happen next!

A Fantasy Romance Between a Demon & a Heiress

A dangerous yet spicy romance between a devilishly handsome demon & a strong minded chaebol heiress!

The tagline definitely fits the bill as we talk about SBS’s latest fantastical offering, “My Demon”. Starring Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang in the lead roles, this was one of the most anticipated romances of the year and rightly so. While the concept of contract marriages is nothing new in Korean dramas, this show strongly hinges on the “Opposite Poles Attract” premise. The settings are beautiful, cinematography is lush while the CGI effects are mindblowing. It has been a long time since I watched a drama that instantly grabs your attention. Being a huge fan of Song Kang, this drama was on my “Must Watchlist” and I’m glad that it lived up to the expectations. There is something exciting about watching an immortal demon butt heads with a cold hearted heiress. They both have unique personalities which merge well and I’m totally enjoying the joyride. Without further ado, let’s dig deeper into the pilot episodes!

A Time Slip Romance- A Hit or Miss

Time travel romances seem to be in vogue these days. Starting with “Perfect Marriage Revenge” and “Story of Kunning Palace”, time slip love stories are creating a lot of buzz in both South Korea and China. They are setting a new trend in the fantasy genre and rightly so. MBC’s latest historical “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” joins the ranks, portraying a somber yet heartening tale of lost love and reconciliation. Adapted from the web novel “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” (열녀박씨 계약결혼뎐) written by Kim Neo Ul (김너울) and illustrated by B, the show stars Lee Se Young & Bae In Hyuk in lead roles. The show paints a not-so pretty picture of a strong minded woman striving to achieve her goals, while going against the Confucian ideals in the Josean society. Pilot episodes do a decent job of setting the premise and introducing the characters while keeping their personal agenda hidden. The melodrama will most likely proceed with lots of confrontations in the upcoming episodes as we learn about the protagonists and the ensuing battles they will be embroiled in.

A Fantasty Thriller with abundant Bromance

Two things seem to be trending these days on the IQIYI platform- wuxia dramas & Zhang Linghe. Following the huge success of his recently ended romance “My Journey to You”, Zhang Linghe is back in the forte with his new mystery thriller “Tiger and Crane”. Definitely another anticipated release this year, fans have been eagerly awaiting the premiere of this show for almost a year. Starring a ginormous cast that includes Jiang Long, Zhang Ling He, Wang Yu Wen, Chen You Wei, Ye Qing, He Lan Dou in lead roles, the drama hinges on the strong bromance between Jiang Long & Zhang Ling He. For those who are still waiting for updates on Zhang Ling He’s BL adaptation “Eternal Faith”, this show can be a consolation of sorts. Set in a fantastical universe where demonologists exist, the show paints a dainty image of the ongoing war between sorcerers and demons. Adapted from Huang Xiaoda’s novel of the same and helmed by popular director, Guo Hu; the drama promises an intriguing battle of wits, power struggles and sorcery.

Not Exactly The Strongest Comeback

The 2017 classic “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” was a sleeper hit simply because of the fantastic chemistry between the main leads Park Bo Young & Park Hyung Sik. It’s quite difficult to come across stories where a female lead and her superpowers are glorified. This edgy fantasy element became the reason for the show’s success. As such, I wasn’t admittedly excited about the new reboot. It may be attributed to the entirely new cast that has no connections to the characters in the prequel. “Strong Girl Namsoon” finally premiered last week. The million dollar question that piques our attention is this- Is the spin-off as well as the prequel? I will answer this question as we analyze the first two episodes and dig deeper into the storyline.
