I tend to jump all over the place when it comes to genres, but my favorites are always fantasy|supernatural|spiritual|thrillers|romance.
I ventured into Asian dramas in 2023 and never looked back. To me, dramas are books brought to life. They give me the same immersion and emotional pull as reading, only in motion. I used to read a book a day until dramas changed the game. Now I make time for bingeing books, older dramas, and watching airing dramas from four countries. I just started on American content again but it's sparse.
K-Dramas: There is magic in K-dramas, I swear. The storytelling feels unmatched and constantly inspires the writer in me. I tend to gravitate toward modern settings, though historical K-dramas are just as captivating. My very first K-drama was Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, where I promptly fell in love with my first-ever bias. Can you guess who? Favorites include: Lovely Runner, Suspicious Partner, Beyond The Bar, WLGYT, Itaewon Class, Queen Mantis, The Manipulated, & Because This is My First Life.
C-Dramas: Consider me utterly spellbound. I watch more C-dramas than anything else; they hold a special place in my heart. From modern romances to historical epics, Wuxia and Xianxia are always welcome here. Though I am a sucker for pure romances where couples work through their internal/external dilemmas. Favorites include Revenged Love, LLTG, WIFTY, The Long Ballad, Hidden Love, The First Frost, and The Prisoner of Beauty.
J-Dramas: A gold mine of creativity. J-dramas are thoughtful, experimental, and quietly profound. As an anime fan, this deep dive felt inevitable. There’s something about J-dramas that hits differently, especially given their shorter formats. They expand perspectives and continue to shape how I think about life and storytelling. Favorites include Glass Heart, In House Marriage Honey, Punks Triangle, and Nevertheless: Shapes of Love.
Thai Dramas: For me Thai dramas are hit and miss. While I started with F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers and dabbled here and there, I prefer Thai BLs, that's where my deep dive into Thai dramas truly began. Now I’m thoroughly obsessed. These days, I watch almost as many Thai dramas as I do C-dramas. Favorites include Khemjira, Clairebell, Thamepo, Perfect 10 Liners, and We Are.
T-Dramas: Taiwanese dramas also hold a special place in my heart. I do explore other Asian dramas as well, but KCJT is where my focus lives. Favorite include: Secret Lover & Lost Romance
