it’s cause of Under the Queen’s Umbrella had crazy high ratings and critical acclaim + he won a baeksang for his role in it. normally when an actor/actress receives a prestigious award like that they get put in main roles w other famous actors. But yeah I think he’s better as a support role than lead role.

I agree completely with you. I wasn’t a fan of this version. I liked the Korean one, but Meteor Garden 2018 was my fav. though, my second fav was the Japanese version. please give it it a try! it’s actually not only 9 episodes, season 1 is 9 episodes and then there is a season 2 that is 11 episodes. So, 20 episodes in total and then there is also a 2 hour movie!! :)

for me, the romance was the weakest part of the show. the revenge part was the reason I stuck around.
