I only watch what I like. 99% of the highly-rated dramas on Douban deserve their ratings. But you can keep comforting yourselves with fantasies about ratings being hated, review-bombed or whatever other excuses. Let me repeat once again, popularity does not mean a high rating, and I’ve provided enough examples to prove this. LA is popular, but its viewer ratings are low. You’ve already proven your incompetence by making up excuses claiming that a 6.5 rating is good and pretending it’s just hate toward the actress. And now when you realize that doesn’t work, you merely hinting that ratings on Douban aren’t worth paying attention to. That's funny.
"ratings is not something casual viewers including me consider" Viewers want a good product. Ratings merely reflect the quality.
To make it clear Santa Barbara was a huge success and topped all charts but was the show actually very good? No.
"Douban rating is 6.5 — which I think is quite good for a modern drama"
Nope. It's a low rating for any drama.
"I’m personally thrilled that Love’s Ambition is a huge success. It has dominated the viewership charts and has already reached around 56 million per episode online."
I'll say it again. You know there are 1.4 billion people living in China, right? Most cdramas have high viewership.Especially with a star cast.
"clearly, plenty of people are enjoying it just like I am."
Nope. Popularity does not mean high ratings. I gave a very simple example proving this.
"Negative one-star reviews on Douban mostly look like targeted attacks on Lusi and PS accusations, rather than fair criticism of the drama itself."
No, it doesn't look that way. You're probably wondering how to explain it, but the facts show that there's no reason for the widespread hate against the actress. There simply aren't any.
In conclusion, I want to repeat once again that popularity does not mean high ratings. You, like another commenter below, simply don't want to see the inconvenient truth. You're simply manipulating statistics. You're presenting high viewership as a result of high ratings, but that’s not how entertainment works.
It feels like people rate this drama low not because it's bad, but because of the love triangle (or should I say square? Hexagon? 😂). It's so immature. Solid and well written kdrama.
@itsariaselenecruz Looks like you blocked me so I wouldn't see your reply lol. But I'm not that stupid 😉
"to millions of viewers, clearly not"
Clearly not? Oh please 😂How could you possibly know how these millions of people rated the drama? You have no way of knowing, so you can't just state that as a fact. Don't fool yourself.
"You don’t get millions of people tuning in because they’re bored - that’s not how entertainment works."
Nope, dear, there are many examples with huge viewership and box office revenues that still ended up with low ratings. For example, the recent Star Wars or Jurassic Park movies, The Lord of the Rings: The ring of power The Witcher and Invasion from Apple tv. These movies and series are terrible and have low ratings but they earned billions and were watched by alooooot of people both on streaming platforms and in cinemas. The reason you're so mad is that Douban, a rating site, is showing you a truth you don't want to see.Yes, ratings can be manipulated, but this is not one of those cases. I see no reason for it to be. Everyone loves the lead actress. And you are the one manipulating the viewership numbers right now by claiming that these millions of people gave the drama a high rating. You don't know the average rating of those millions of viewers. You only know how many there were, nothing more. No, that's not how it works, girl.
Why do I feel like if the ratings were good, you'd be pointing to them as the drama's biggest strength?😄
To you, maybe, but not to millions of viewers. As Xu Yan might say, you are 1 of 10. ☝️👌
The viewers per episode? Are you even aware that 1.4 billion people live in China? Of course there will be many views, just like any other cdrama. Douban is the largest rating platform for cdramas, and that has to be acknowledged. Perhaps this truth is inconvenient for you. Nowhere has more ratings than Douban. Views don't mean a high rating. If we combined all the ratings from every rating platform, the score would still be below 7.

On Douban, the largest chinese rating site, the score is 6.5/10 from 168 313 people.
The Netflix version is much better.
