Not what I expected by a masterpiece in its own right
This was not what I was expecting. I thought it would be a lot sadder and more angsty.
It’s simply a story about two Christian boys falling in love, and that’s the beauty of it. Both go through a lot of mental turmoil trying to reconcile their faith with their life experiences and love, only to realize in the end that they didn’t HAVE to choose.
I’m agnostic, so I’m not a big fan of organized religion, but this show didn't feel like Catholic propaganda to me, and I think interpreting it as such is simply due to a misunderstanding of the characters and their choices. In the end, they both choose a much more personal relationship with their God that gives them peace. I think this show is unlike anything I’ve ever seen and people struggling with similar battles might be able to watch this to gain a new perspective without feeling like they’re being attacked simply for being Christian.
