A Mostly Satisfying Sequel

I didn't watch the non special addition version of this, so I can't compare the two but I can compare the first two seasons. In all honesty, I think the first season's story was stronger. Second season starts with a really contrived, even stupid, misunderstanding and the first season didn't have anything like that weighing it down. Why did Zhou Shu Yi automatically assume that Gao Shi De would get with some woman? I guess he assumed that's why he never got Gao Shi De's emails. Obviously Gao Shi De never wrote them to get with some ho with a baby that may or may not be Gao Shi De's.

The conflict between the lead men does get more interesting in that it ends up having more to do with their insecurities than lame contrivances. I happen to also like the conflict between the boys and Zhou Shu Yi's father because it gave the boys something mostly realistic to fight against. Also the writers were able to make the father a believable antagonist without making him come off as cartoony or ridiculous. Another great thing about the main love story is that the actors are really great in the roles and have chemistry that you can believe, which always helps with the immersion of the audience.

As others have said, the low point of the show is the relationship between Pei Shou Yi and Yu Zhen Xuan. I suppose the writers wanted to challenge themselves by creating a story between two men who have some sort of mental disability and/or disorder. I have no problem with this but there simply wasn't enough time given to build this relationship up properly. The thing that was kind of interesting to me was wondering if Yu Zhen Xuan acting like L from Death Note was in the script or a choice the actor made. I didn't really care if they ended up together or not. I mean since it's a BL show, I knew they were going to end up together but y'all get my meaning.

If they wanted to build up another BL relationship, they should have stuck with Liu Bing Wei and Shi Zhe Yu who were in the first season. Their relationship is given such little attention that I didn't entirely know if those boys were a couple or not. But they're cute and invested in the main couple's story in multiple ways, so they should have got the attention.

All in all, I'd say this series is a cute, sweet diversion that is worth one's time.
