yes, he dies in the end. His second surgery was a success but sadly, after some months, the cancer returns and can no longer be cured :(

about narrator thing...in the "television version" there is a narrator (man) because of potential viewers who are blind or something. if you watch the DVD, this narrator is totally absent and we can enjoy the movie well (the pathos is totally different ... more sad!). all 24th jikan terebi special dramas are like this (with a narrator in the tv version) anyway! ^^ I hope now it is more clear!♥

I'm looking forward to this movie. I really like the cast! Ikuta Toma is a great actor, same Asano Tadanobu. Also i'm really curious about Yamada! he is playing a new role, compared to his usual works. Despite his age, he is becoming a REALLY good actor and i can't wait to see him as Semi, which is also my favorite character of the manga.
