I'm relatively new to the rabbit hole that is Asian drama , but this whole strong /weak female idea is fascinating.…
Welcome to dramaland!
Not that many people enjoyed Boys Over Flower, so you are free to rant on about it. I certainly disliked that drama.

I honestly haven’t watched any of the dramas you listed but I’ll be sure to give them a try based on your opinion!

I also crave dramas with female friendships! Have you watched Ode to Joy or Age of Youth?
Yeah, it isn’t very prevalent in Kdramas nor does it actually have seem like a true friendship

Totally agree!

I feel the same way, who could fault someone for sincerely trying to improve themselves!

This also shouldn't be limited to the protagonists. The villains rarely show any development other than losing to the hero which is straight up predictable. Development should be given to all. At the same time, there are people who repeat their mistakes and don't learn from them, even so, they still is a form of changing happening. Like you said, no one can stay the same.

I really do feel that the idealism with “innocence” in regards to sex is what plays a heavy hand in theses female characters. They aren’t given any sexual autonomy nor are they allowed to show that they have slept with anyone other than the male lead. It is overplayed on females while males are given that freedom to excess until they meet that innocent character.

Your article talked about stereotypical female characters in 2 short sentences, but it doesn't express your opinion…
I think I unconsciously refrained from putting my opinion which you spotted. In regards to your questions, since it is nearly impossible for us ourselves to always respond correctly to situations, handling our family lives and romantic relationships in a perfect manner, we can’t really expect a fictional character to do the same. The problem is that there aren’t enough variety of women especially in the romance dramas and while it is getting better, there are still certain lines that won’t be cross as of yet. I also dislike the harsh unconstructive criticism female characters receive compared to male characters who are often praised for the same thing.

It is definitely not only attributed to Asian dramas. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

That is the biggest reason I wrote this article. I was truly tired and irritated with the level of harsh criticism women characters face compared to their male counterparts. I totally agree and thank you for your thoughtful comment!
