Ah, Long Tai. Yes, he is. He's also a capable detective. When he was still impersonated a sheriff, not only he managed to determine the caused of death, he was also able to precisely draw the footprint at the crime scene to compare with the other guests'. Even SWM was impressed.
Through S1 and S2, Xijun character attested to be more than just the girl for the protagonist. Not to be the eye…
Early in s1 I was annoyed by her desperate wish to follow LLF to the point of running away from home. But later on the season, I realised that she was just lonely (and possibly felt suffocated by her father's overprotectiveness). She also yearn for adventure. Glad she followed them tho bcs she is a great addition to the team =)
Just finished Season 2 To the West and It's even better than the first story. While the first one was a dark horse…
Guo Zhang's death wrecked me really bad. He was a fiercely loyal friend to LLF. When LLF was first kicked out from the capital in early S1, he was willing to desert his post to follow him. After LLF persuaded him to stay, he offered all of his life savings (iirc) bcs he was left with nothing, but LLF politely declined. Such a loyal & kind hearted brother he was. He didn't deserve that kind of ending 😭
Also sad about sheriff sima's death. Man was really loyal to his people & everything he did is for the people. He was like a mirror of LLF given how similiar their personalities are with the same passion for upholding justice down to the stubbornness.
The last 2 cases are also the saddest in the entire series. I love the little lesson about harmful traditions at the end. Personally, I love culture and history but some traditions have no reason to still exist in the 21st century.
Btw, since we might get S3, it'll most likely be the conclusion to Li Longji-Princess Taiping conflict and if you know the history (since the timeline & those 2 royal characters are based on real history), it ended with the princess executed for treason. If that happen, I wonder what would happen to both LLF & SWM given that they both are considered as part of the princess' cohort.
The penultimate murder mystery left me unsatisfied because of the morally ambiguous resolution to the murder.…
Regardless of whether they want to pursue the perpetrator or not, they do NOT have a single credible evidence. All they have is speculation. And justice is more than blindly following the law.
To reply @Drama_fluff I think some fans got defensive over LuLu and misunderstood Xijun all the way. Yup, there…
For me it was more of an angry talk than a threat from Xijun. If LLF is hell bent on pursuing those women, no one can stop him. He's the type that would definitely sacrifice his personal life for his idea of justice. And let's be real, since s1 Xijun has been consistently calling out bs & speaks her mind whenever she feels the need to.
Given that LLF was just sitting there contemplating instead of dragging those women to the county office ASAP is prove enough that internally, he was already considering that route for reasons;
1) li yun had been destroying many lives & would not stop on his own accord
2) sympathy for the victim
3) they freaking DON'T have any concrete evidence. All they have is speculation.
To people complaining about Xijun, please, LLF isn't a toddler.
I love it when protagonist in detective story acknowledge the limitation of law & the need for vigilante act like Poirot famously did in Murder on the Orient Express & Sherlock Holmes in The Boscombe Valley Mystery. It irked me so much when they're like "I know the victim is a bad person & if they hadn't been stop would destroy someone again & that they're practically untoucable but ✨law✨ 😥"
Hope LLF & SWM handles this one like Poirot did in the orient express case.
Also, from the trailer they have to leave Yunding for the capital now and it makes me so sad. I have come to love Yunding and its people. I also don't want this drama to ends 😭
