I was obsessed over this drama
I don’t normally write reviews on a regular basis but felt that with how obsessed I was with this drama that it warranted one lol.
Right from the beginning of this drama, I was obsessed, I think that the last drama that I was obsessed with was a Thai, Boys, Love drama called Cutie Pie. I literally have spent the last couple of weeks either camped out in the common section of. MDL or over on Reddit reading discussions about this drama. Normally if I get spoilers or like read spoilers from the novel which I always do because my sense of suspense sucks, I invariably get bored and then I’ll eventually always interest in the drama, but this was not the case for this drama. I think probably because the novel and the drama are quite different so it basically was like its own story, so while novel spoilers didn’t count. I still like didn’t mind reading drama spoilers either and never lost interest.
Production - I do think that the production could’ve used some work, they’re definitely could’ve been more explanations surrounding certain things. I know this has more to do with the editing after the fact, but as someone pointed out in the comment section when she decides to expose herself in order to introduce him as the new Crown Prince, since at this point, they weren’t together as the leads had just had a revelation about their identities. There were no previous scenes to show that they had talked about how they were going to introduce the male lead as the new Crown Prince. It would’ve been really nice to have shown them meeting up and going over the plan as to how they were going to move forward with knowing who they were now. Instead, it literally just showed the female lead going up to the emperor exposing who she was and then being like hey the new Crown Prince is coming with nothing to explain their thought processes in order to come up with this plan lol. I also think they could’ve done a better job and including more scenes of the female leads background to show that she also wasn’t treated the greatest. As we got many scenes without the mail lead was treated, but then only like one or two scenes to show how the female was treated. As a viewer, I don’t mind reading between the lines when it comes to this, but I know a lot of other commenters would have appreciated having a better visual at what the female lead also went through when it came to her background.
Story - I love the story if the story can keep me so invested that I don’t care about learning about novel spoilers or drama spoilers without losing interest then it gets a high score for me.
Acting /Cast- I just was so emotionally invested in the characters relationships I passionately defended the female lead in the comment section from those who tried to invalidate the characters abusive background. I did defend the male lead but to a lesser degree probably because they did a better job at showing what kind of background he had where is the female lead? It just was only a few snippets of memories here and there. I think that HMH and LYX such a phenomenal job portraying these characters that I could literally relate to them and their backgrounds as if they were actual people.
Yu Cheng An - a lot of commenters didn’t think that he had the experience with the acting chops to play a villain. I think he played a great villain, especially Moore towards the end, there were a couple of scenes where his expression looked downright evil. I know a lot of other viewers thought that just because he has a baby face that that means he doesn’t physically look like a villain? Looks have nothing to do with someone committing evil deeds lol, I actually think that it’s interesting that people think that just because you act evil doesn’t means that your physical features should look a certain way? I think personally he did a great job with his character and that it takes a really good actor for people to have such a strong dislike for that character
Music - I love the music and have already downloaded some of the songs that are now part of my playlist. I think that music just adds so much to the storytelling and emotions that are evoked when the right songs are chosen or written for that drama. Most of the dramas that I love I have some of the OST for and I listen to them regularly.
Rewatch Value - I’m going to give this a high rewatch value since throughout the series I’ve gone back to watch certain episodes or the scenes in certain episodes multiple times lol. 😂
