It will be interesting to see how faithful this remake is. As described in the article the original had an episodic story format with a series long main story. So each episode she would solve a problem or help someone out with a problem and over the episodes you would get bits and pieces of a bigger story involving her former life as a spy.
I liked the original but Japanese stuff tends to be a bit hamfisted so there is room for improvement (and with a strong writing/directing team and someone like Chae Soo Bin that could happen, it could also fall flat too and be worse than the original). I also wonder if this series will include the movie as part of the series remake.
It's cool they are doing a remake and I hope it's a good watch.
The leads are good together. Chi Lan has a ton of colorful outfits. The crown prince is an interesting side character.
This has more of a plot and story that does better than say The Starry Love but not by that much. I enjoyed it about the same I would say.
But I think so far the theme in early 2023 with Chinese historical & fantasy dramas is that they have interesting characters but I'm struggling with the stories and wishing they would have a better story or explore more of the story.
I just started but the audio on Viki is horrible. Is this standard audio even on other platforms? This isn't a criticism of the actors or actresses or their voice actors if they have any... everything feels quiet and turning up the volume doesn't really help me. It still feels quiet.
I think it's interesting to keep things at a relatively low level, a county/state/region level through the first 5 episodes. No princes or kings or emperors (at least not yet). It will be interesting to see where they take this.
Dang. It ends just when it gets interesting. They rushed a lot into those last 2 episodes. I hope season 2 brings back the cast but knowing Chinese dramas a bunch of characters potentially even the main ones will be different.
It was fun. Over the top silliness at times but that's fine with me.
I think it started to go off the rails a bit towards the end but as someone who hasn't watched many KDramas in recent years, I enjoyed this one and would recommend it.
Finished it recently. It's pretty good but the romance was a bit awkward and done poorly. I think the show wasn't too sure where to be. Also the Dan princess(?) and the 5th brother were awesome. It's too bad one of the two or both had a 'no kissing' clause. The hugs were obvious.
I don't see it on the coming soon list but this happened a while ago. I really hope it's not cancelled or caught up in some sort of Chinese government censorship hell.
The instrumental part of the OST is still the most amazing I have listened to in literally any drama. It does such a great job of setting the mood and complimenting the actors. Concept is an amazing one but execution is poor. But despite the poor execution by the writing & directing teams... this drama put Kim Hye Yoon as one of the best young actresses in Korea as far as I'm concerned.
I didn't realize it was 4 minute episodes. The Viki cut is decent but the episode timer here explains why sometimes scene to scene things felt a bit jarring.
I liked the leads and in particular the female lead. I hope they get more roles.

I will agree it was predictable though.

The cast is pretty good. I hope they can get full length dramas.
