The only work of ZDY that I watched was 'Better Days'. I was impressed by her acting there. Here, I cannot say for now that her acting is as amazing as it is in that movie because this drama is still airing. By the synopsis, i believe that her character has more to offer. Im so glad that Shanggu is not an annoying female lead. She is both powerful and smart and a bonus for me that she is straightforward about her feelings.
As for XK, I did like his acting in The Legends and AMA and these two are his only works that I watched. His character in these dramas are totally different and I think he portrayed them well.
So far the episodes keep me invested and look forward to the upcoming ones.
Maybe it is just me that I find all the actors here can act? Like can really portray their respective character?
Maybe because I don't know what happened in the novel that I find this drama way better than others in the same genre.
- I watched Soul Land and I could not help myself to have expectations even when I try not to. I'm really looking forward to the fight scenes but it just end very quickly. - The BGM is what I dislike the most in this drama. There are scenes that the BGM used seems unfit. - I like ZZQ and DMB's relationship in here as I liked it in Soul Land. - I know that OSK is talkative but he is way more talkative in here that I literally fast forward the scenes where he just talk. - Master here I think is way inferior compared to Soul Land. I really admire his knowledge in Soul land but in this drama, he seems confuse and unsure at times. - I don't have an opinion on XW's character in Soul Land and I did not really evaluate WXY's portrayal of this character. (When FL is annoying, I don't invest my time in her.) - I like the teamwork - opening and ending song is inferior to Soul Land. (Angela Chang's song replays in my mind but these two doesn't. I'm not saying these are bad songs but there could be bettercsongs or version.) - CGI is great and better compared to other dramas of the same genre. - Actors give justice to their characters.
This drama will impress you if you don't have any background about the original material. I think it will also impress those who have background of the original material if they watched this with lowered level of expectation or kind of take this drama as a twist or another story from the same universe. And lastly, if I were a person who values original material to a great extent, I would also be disappointed. Still disappointing even if my expectation is about half of a hundred.
These are just my opinion and I could not say that these are objective.
If you plan to watch this, WATCH IT! Ps. I paid VIP in WeTV for this one.
