I think you should give the K-remake a chance, since the shortcomings you mentioned are the strengths of the Kdrama one. ( That's at least how I found it to be)

Throughout the show I hoped that the big brother would not be guilty for once, but as most probably predicted from the start it was him. Would have been a much bigger twist if it was not him.

It really is, but if it was a romantic relationship it would have been very uncomfortable to watch, at least for me.

You should use spoiler tag, but yeah I agree it's not romantic, FL may have mistaken it as attraction at some point, but it seems like she understood her feelings in the end.

I found their relationship very precious, but certainly not romantic, cannot really describe it with words it's more like friends and a Father figure but still not that, they encourage each other and are like saviours to one another.

Yeah I watched it and it's such an amazing show, acting is impeccable and characters have so much depth it's insane. The relationship between ML and FL is so precious too.

I did read it when it was fully finished and I could read it in 1-2 days so maybe it just felt fast to me.
