Okay episode 1 to 27 were an ultimate 10 amazing story telling, amazing acting, good characterisation, great pacing…
I would give it 9.8 to 9.9 cos I can accept everything except that it just needed at least one shot of Nanya at the end. Then we get out emotional reward.
I found the ending to be very realistic, but usually realistic endings like this are not liked by drama fans.…
I didn't have a problem with their fate but I do have a problem with them not giving us viewers the emotional payoff that we deserve. They should have replaced the shot of Qingli outside the shop with Nanya. Then they both smile at each other. Done! Perfect series.
I have avoided watching Chinese dramas because most of them are cringe and cheesy like Indian soap operas/cringe…
Tong Yao was brilliant in Nothing But Thirty but it's a really different kind of drama. I enjoyed that drama a lot, especially Tong Yao's storyline at the end and I really loved her character in that series. I recommend this series wholeheartedly with only one caveat. You need to know it's not a crime / suspense drama.
I felt that the overly frequent timeline changes were pointless and added nothing to the story except to make one lose patience. After awhile it began to feel pretentious. While the story of the friendships was interesting in the beginning, it began to get repetitive and boring cos how many scenes do we need to watch to see that they have a deep friendship?? It's ep7 and I'm only just barely hanging on cos I want to know what happens.
I get it that they want to showcase their friendship and slowly reveal their backgrounds & their flaws & how their backgrounds affected them and their decisions etc but seriously, they need a more ruthless editor. Even The Pavillion felt faster compared to this and that is similar to Nobody Knows as in that it was less about finding the criminal and more about what happens to the victim's family after the murder of the victim goes unsolved for years. That series didn't have any scenes that I strongly felt they could drop. In Nobody Knows, there was just way too many scenes that they could have left on the cutting floor. After a while, I stopped caring for the characters and just want them to get on with the damn story already.
This is nothing like Disappearing Child. The nonlinear narrative structure was more interesting and used in a better way in that series. And that series while slow was paced so much better. This series felt like the director felt like "I can mess the narrative structure up because I can, so I do cos I am God! And I can meander and be repetitious cos I can, so I do!" What is the point of this messy way of telling this story??
Awful production. Plot and characters might be great, but I don´t care to find out. The camera work literally…
OMG! I so agree! The music, sound effects, camera work & editing was atrocious! The producers/directors made some pretty poor decisions. After 2 EPs, I don't care enough to find out if there is actually a good story or not.
