Actually, I kind of expected that this is the direction this series would take.
Maybe I'll warm up to her performance later. We'll see. I heard things really get going in ep6 but for those of us with limited time...5 EPs is a long time for things to get going.

I have an unpopular opinion, I think. I'm at episode 4, and I'm not really into the drama. While I have a positive opinion of Sun Li, I prefer her performances in her previous dramas. Here, she seems a bit too studied and has lost that raw emotion.

Ah.... sadly, I don't even like this casting. She's cute but lacks that 邪 that Huang Rong needs to have. Her Huang Rong is like any other cute gal in any other typical drama. Maybe it's the script too. They cut so much out.

I personally still think the Zhou Xun and Li Yitong versions of Huang Rong are the closest to what she's suppose to be.

There is a nugget of a good story here but the narrative structure is quite repetitive which made the pacing too slow. I got bored by the time they started the 3rd story and skipped to the end. This really could have been condensed.

I still prefer the 2017 version. I don't like it that they flashback certain things. Pace is actually so consistent, it's actually quite boring for me.
