Friendship? no gay? 😭😭😭
Yes, it is not a gay story. It is about 2 friends who both love the same girl.

Although it's not a Netflix original, I think this show would've been served better had the whole season dropped all at once.

This week's episode didn't really feel worth the wait, especially with it being 10 minutes shorter for some reason.

By the end of the episode, it actually kind of felt like a retread of the first episode. Both episodes had Asuka experiencing absolute low points in her life, attempting but ultimately stopped from doing something drastic by Seigo, and ending with realizing that Shogi is going to be the answer.

Hope the series picks up from here.

Unfortunately, was disappointed with the story in the end. The police investigation lead nowhere and we learn absolutely nothing about "the man" other than he collects hair so in the end, everything felt like a waste of time.

No one is saying BLs can't discuss serious issues. There's tons that do.The problem is that too many people nowadays…
I do think there should be a more clear distinction when it comes with live adapted works though. I'd argue there is a certain expectation that people have when they see a drama or movie is labeled "BL". They want to see romance. If the story contains other elements to it, then it's a bonus. But for quite a lot of people, the reason they start a "BL" show is because they are interested in the relationship between the lead characters.

Hence when talking about live adaptions and how they're labeled, I think people should be able to more easily distinguish between what they expect out of what is usually a "BL" and stories that just happen to have LGBTQ+ lead characters. Because I'd hate to see people rating this or any other show low because they expected romance but then the story ends up having little to none of it because it was more of a queer coming of age story or whatever the case may be.

Probably cause this site can't find a fansub to steal from.

Kind reminder that not all BLs are 'rose-colored,' they can discuss serious issues (e.g., SA, mental health) and…
No one is saying BLs can't discuss serious issues. There's tons that do.

The problem is that too many people nowadays are automatically assuming/labeling *any* story with gay main characters is "BL", and that's not the case. "BL" is a sub-genre of romance, and thus, BL stories almost always primarily focus on the relationship of the story's main characters. How the main characters meet, how they get together, how they are when they are together, etc.

Compare that to the broader label of "LGBTQ+ Stories". Romance is not always a part of the story, and even when it is, it is not always specifically the main focus of the story.

People assuming Smells Like Green Spirit is a BL, when it's not, are going to be disappointed. This not in the same vein as say... Happy of the End, a BL that depicts serious issues while still focusing on the romance of its 2 main characters. This is a story centered around the lives of characters that are LGBTQ+.

Dramacool doesn't sub anything. They simply steal from fansubbers.

In this case, they're just waiting to steal pyzzicato's work.

Title Love Mate
Shows need to stop trying to romanticize abusive/harassing behavior. From the first episode alone, HaRam has a complete lack of respect towards Lee Jun and his personal space/boundaries. The excessive touching (to someone who is both older and a superior at your job, no less)... constantly pushing to be closer to Lee Jun when he's very clearly uncomfortable and uninterested and trying to get away.... If Lee Jun was a woman this situation would be so obviously problematic but the show wants us to laugh it off because they're both men and this is a BL and they've added uplifting cutesy music in the background to make light of the moments. If toxicity is something you personally enjoy/can look past in a love story, that's fine, but with how much progress Korea (and BLs as a whole) have made in terms of storytelling, this drama so far feels like a big step back to the early days of BLs where so many problematic tropes were being used.

Usually they will sub about a week after the raw episode comes out. Hopefully they do on this one.
DramaCool doesn't sub anything themselves, btw.

All they do is re-upload official subtitles, from sources like Netflix or Hulu or etc.

Or they steal the work of fansubbers and remove all the credits before uploading.

Can somebody who speaks Korean clarify this for me? Does namja chingu ( λ‚¨μžμΉœκ΅¬) mean boyfriend as in lover…
To me, he was simply clarifying the gender of the friend he was with.

Clerk: "With your girlfriend?"
JaeWon: "No, with a guy friend"

I highly doubt JaeWon meant 'boyfriend', given how homophobic Korea still is. You really wouldn't announce that so openly here, especially to a stranger.

I'm so sorry this is happening! :( That person is so rude and such a clown too for tagging and using a mooncake…
Seems like they've decided to private after completely embarrassing themselves by sharing obviously stolen content with absolutely no regard or courtesy to renard and his circle lol. Shameful. People like this are ridiculous. Like, congrats on getting the immediate attention you were seeking. Were the 3 twitter likes satisfying? Because you just made it less likely any future content will be shared.

I am messaging Irozuku to give us schedule so we can rest and wait, as right now waiting is feeling like eternity,…
Yeah, I have no idea what is going on with this show with Viki. Did they buy the streaming rights at the very last minute or something?

The fact that there's still no channel manager most likely means there's not even a subtitle team formed yet. There's not even a plot synopsis on the page either. A mess.

Has any fansubber picked this up? 😭
Irozuku announced a while back that they would be subbing the series. Right now it's just a waiting period to see whether they or Viki will release first.

Although I do hope Viki spends time checking the quality of their subs before release, because their subs for just the trailer already has mistranslations in it lol.
On Takara-kun & Amagi-kun Aug 21, 2022
Had to drop this after the first episode. The acting of the main leads was extremely weak, especially in comparison to some of the side characters/actors. Amagi's actor was cringy to watch at times and Shun's character had the emotional range of a rock so there wasn't much being given other than monotonous line deliveries. The editing was messy as well, with the constant time jumps between past and present that had no relation with each other nor provide us with information as to how much time had passed between the jumps. Plot-wise, I'm personally not a fan of "I love you even though I've never spoken to you" and "I love you after spending 5 minutes with you" so that's a miss for me as well. Japan usually excels with BLs, but this one unfortunately missed the mark for me in several ways.

I doubt either of the actors had objections since they kissed in ep 4 and it wasn't even one of those awkward…
I'm aware of the more explicit scenes in the manga. And in the scenes where the characters are full on mouth-to-mouth kissing, the author makes it quite clear that it is indeed a mouth-to-mouth kiss. Togawa's confession, for example, shows a clear mouth-to-mouth kiss in both the drama and the manga. But this scene in the alleyway was not one of those moments.

I don't want to attack you for having your own interpretation of what went on in the moments between the panels, because you're definitely free to interpret the story however you like for your own enjoyment. And I'm really glad that you love the show. Because I do too.

But as far as the show goes, and what we see on the actual manga panels themselves, I'd have to say the drama was incredibly faithful to the source material.

And I think that is important to remember because it's incredibly rude to assume the actors had some sort of "kiss quota" written into their contract, or that they're disgusted at the thought of having to kiss another man more than absolutely necessary. The actors have been quite open about their time on the show, how open they are to BLs, and how they felt that this wasn't a "gay" story but rather a universal love story that everyone can relate to in some way. Both actors read the manga ahead of time, so they knew what kind of story they would be portraying and how explicit the scenes could get, and yet there were no objections. To assume either of them is homophobic because there was a lack of of a kiss, cheek or otherwise, despite everything else is rather rude.

Sorry, but it's obviously really clear that their faces aren't even close to each other. So I again stand by that the only thing that was cut was a quick kiss on the cheek.

Sorry, but you're really mistaken. There was no mouth-to-mouth kiss in that scene in the manga either.

If you go back and look at the manga, all we see is Togawa giving Nozue a brief kiss on the cheek before he attempts to lean in for a real kiss before they are abruptly interrupted.

So in essence, the show was pretty much entirely faithful to the manga. Would that cheek kiss, or a real kiss, be nice to have and see? Of course. But the lack of did not ruin the show.

The series is trending in Japan right now following the season finale. Congratulations to this show for setting the standard in how BLs, and dramas in general, should be. It's been an absolutely fantastic series with a great story that was filmed beautifully, had realistic relatable characters, and absolutely top tier acting done by the cast.

The director has mentioned that he would love to create a sequel if possible. Let's pray for a Season 2!
