I've just tried to clarify the timelines in episodes 13 and 14.
We know from some dialogue that the mother dies a month after Gu leaves. The opening scene of episode 13 (when Gu is outside with the chairman) is likely late winter. Which winter is unclear. It might even be after the reunion for all we know. For now I'm going to assume that all Gu's scenes in the beginning of episode 13 are part of the same timeline but it's possible some of them aren't. I don't want to over complicate things though. When Gu is on the train we transition back to the siblings as well as back in time. We end up back in the timeline around when the mother dies. During the backwards sequence it snows and then it's autumn. This makes it seem like Gu's timeline in episode 13 takes place the winter after the mother died. The scene when Gu meets the dad again definitely picks up where we left off with Gu on the train before the transition back in time as he's in the same outfit.
For most of 14 we see the aftermath of the mother's death. The beach scene in episode 14 looks like it's catching up to Gu's timeline but it must still be a little behind. At some point between the beach scene and the scene in which Gu returns to the house the dad got remarried and it's quite a small window unless I missed something. Near the end of the episode we see Gu return home after talking to the dad and in the following scene it's the reunion. There could've been a big gap between when Gu returns home and when he calls MJ but as far as I can tell it's not long after.
To summarise:
Gu's scenes in episodes 13 and 14 take place the winter after the mother dies. The siblings' scenes in the same episodes take place before and after the mother's death. Their timeline is still catching up to Gu's by the beach scene but it can't be far behind. Between the beach scene and the reunion all the siblings moved to Seoul and the dad remarried. The only reason I think there isn't much time difference between Gu's timeline and the siblings' timeline is because of the transition scene in episode 13. It's possible Gu's timeline takes place over a year after the mother dies which would place the beach scene a year before Gu's scenes in episodes 13 and 14. That seems more likely in some ways but then the transition sequence back in time was a bit misleading. Maybe we weren't meant to take it too literally. If anyone spotted a mistake here or something I missed please correct me.
I just re-watched the last scene of episode 14 and if it had taken place after Mr Gu had somehow solved his problems (I don't mean off camera, I mean that we should've seen this play out first) then it would've been a perfect way to end it. I would've been happier to see Gu fix his life before reuniting with her even if that meant the drama kept them separated for a few episodes. I think it would've made their reunion more satisfying and as I've already said I think an optimistic open ending would've been perfect for this drama.
Depressing theory for how this will end based on a scene in latest episode:
the scene in which something falls from a tree and hits MJ on the head when she's about to smoke is reminiscent of the scene in which the urn clunks. The implication of the urn clunking is that it's the mother expressing indignation over the family argument. However, in the smoking scene MJ is reminded of Gu. We've seen how the drama plays a little with the timeline and the same thing might've occurred here and Gu is actually dead in that scene. I am still quite hopeful that this theory is way off because the scene in question does match the timeline it appears in quite closely. She's wearing the same clothes and has her old haircut. She also has a cut from the bag hitting her. In the following scenes when she's interviewed by HR (I assume) the cut is gone but we're probably meant to assume she covered it with makeup. On the other hand the scene could've been deliberately matched closely with the timeline so that no-one would question it.
Gu and Mi Jeong's meeting did not go well with me. Is it that simple? I am the only one I think who wants to see…
Were you expecting something less happy and more dramatic? I don't mind the scene but I do find it a little oddly placed. Have you seen My Mister? Spoiler for My Mister ahead- it reminded me of the end scene in that drama where the two leads meet again.
I would actually be happy if this was the final episode (episode 14). I know some people want more couple scenes, and I'm not saying I don't want to see more of the main couple (it depends on how it's done), but a happy open ending seems fitting for this drama and that's what this episode gives us. I'm worried that the next two episodes will ruin things. I said before that the writer would have to be trying really hard to disappoint me now. What I meant was that it would have to end horribly tragically for me to dislike it. I don't know why but I'm nervous that it will. That's partly why I almost wish this was the last episode. I'm worried I'll look back and wish I'd stopped watching here.
I just hope that we won't get an open ending at the end !!! It'll be too much for my weak heart :'( .......
I won't mind an open end as long as it's optimistic. That's actually the only end I can picture for this drama. It's been full of surprises though and honestly the writer will have to be trying really hard to disappoint me at this point.
I don't really feel the chemistry, so I guess I'll try to offer the contrarian view...To me, romance that I can…
Since I don't share your view I may not have properly understood you but let me try and address what I think you're getting at. The way I see their relationship is that they're building their own unique connection precisely by going through their respective voids together. It's a slow burner but I've been impressed by how each week there's a little more to their relationship than the week before. I can't argue with what you've pointed out but it's the subtle progression on the foundation of being in a bad place and helping each other through it that I find romantic. You said that you want to see a strong reason why they want to be with each other (as opposed to just being mere rebounds) but the drama is still building up that very reason. If the drama asked itself why do they like each other then it would be chasing it's own tail. The whole story is the answer to the question.
I read alot on twitter that people found the kiss awkward. Also that Mr. Gu mostly looks bored when hes with Mi…
I don't think he looks bored. I think sometimes he's hard to read. He definitely doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve like a lot of other male leads in romance dramas. I second what Kudo_Lelouch said about him simply not meeting viewers' expectations of a typical male lead. Because he's not really emotional and expressive viewers who prefer over the top characterisation might think he looks bored. I think they're failing to appreciate the nuance. Let's also not forget that Mr. Gu is barely sober for most of his scenes. As a result he's got a certain numbness about him.
So the only drama i'm currently watching is tomorrow but since that's airing i was struggling to find something…
I had pretty much the same experience. Nothing about this drama really appealed to me except for Kim Ji Won who I liked in other dramas. It turned out to be exactly what I'm looking for in a romance drama but never seem to find.
I too was very surprised when I saw comments saying the leads have no chemistry. Some people here have suggested that it's because of the lack of fluff and typical romantic scenes. I don't know if that's the reason or not but I'm surprised by the possibility. I like fluffy rom-coms but only up until the main couple get together. I had that experience with Business Proposal and other dramas like it. It's the build up that I like about romance and not the cute romantic scenes. I hate the cutesy scenes and I usually stop watching once the the main couple get together. This drama has maintained the romantic momentum even after they got together. I'm impressed that the writer has managed to instil the main couples' scenes with so much underlying tension even after they started dating. It just gets better every week imo. It's definitely not cute and fluffy though. I can see how if that's what you look for in a romance you might not feel any chemistry.
