Thank you so much Erudite and Lillian 1008 for your answers. That totally makes sense. I just have 1 more question. So at the end where Wan Mei mentioned that the Duke created a rumor that she is the descendant of Princess Taiping but she did not know his intention for it. Do you have any ideas what his purposes are? I am guessing that 1) it might make the current King want to kill Wan Mei? and 2) because of that Chang An may show up for her? 3) it means the Duke did not give up yet especially after sending Yue Ying to be with the King?
In some way, I feel like the Duke lost his truest love, Yue Ying. But that also does not mean he is losing her forever as long as she is still alive. I could not really tell if he ever thinks of loving her back. Because to him even if he loves someone, that's a separate thing from not using them (though he would make sure they survived like in Wan Mei's case - that is if he loves Yue Ying even a bit). So it is hard to tell.
