This and SBMS are the last two dramas he had to do because of old contracts. So Youth Memories, Zanghai, Spying and everything that comes in the future are his choices and the difference in quality is very easy to spot.

Cheng Yi is being destroyed in China for his bad acting, lines and worst of all his bad behavior. His fandom is desperate to divert attention by attacking Xiao Zhan but also almost a dozen other actors in the past few days. This is reality and you will just have to cope with that. This bad drama is being called out from CCTV to foreign papers and no matter what you delusional fans think, it is the majority opinion in China.

So they went back in time and made a drama about him. The ghost seal is still very much in play, as well as tomb building and raiding but the story about him is essentially an original work. If you haven't tried it, I really recommend it. It even helps plug some plot holes from the tomb series.

Is Legend of Zanghai good? Yes, it is phenomenal. Massive hit in China, absolutely worth your time, especially if you like revenge, mystery and adventure. It has an absolute male lead so any romance is very, very light.

It should be relatively soon, they seem to be close to wrap up.
