There are connections to the books but everything they have said so far says this drama isn't in the original universe but just uses some aspects to launch a new story. I understand what you are saying but I think there won't be new information about the parent universe. Maybe some of the other posters know more to help.

I think you have mixed something up, that's not what this drama is about. As it says above, it's about Zhinu who lost his parents as a kid, who then goes on to get revenge while using the pseudonym Zanghai (no Wang), first by being a scholar all the way up to becoming a minister and conspiracy surrounding all that. It's not related to the parent story except in some details.
On YOUKU, this drama is in the 7th coming soon position.. So my take is that the end of this year is the soonest.…

Zheng Xiaolong is such a legend and to have him direct a revenge story for Xiao Zhan is a dream for me. I have been trying to pick up some small info while avoiding major spoilers thanks to the script being available and it all seems great. I expect a feast on our hands and what's more important, there is going to be a lot of angst for Zanghai and that means room for Xiao Zhan to stretch his acting wings. I am also not a fan of too smooth sailing stories so that is perfect.
Happy to see Wallace Chung here too, can't believe the man is almost 50 and looks so damn fine. Hopefully this will arrive towards the end of this year because I am impatient for more XZ on my screen (of course whenever it's ready is fine!).
