Amazing review. I agree with every single argument you explained. It only took me one single episode to know this drama was just not for me. Lazy writing, toxic positivity, scenes that relied on over dramatic acting...
Episode one wasn't that bad so I still gave it another chance. Unfortunately, it kept getting worse. The fire scene was just too much. It felt like the characters were just placed in the story for the sake of the plot. The writing didn't feel natural. I struggled to understand the characters and to make a connection with them. Some interesting topics were not correctly explored. For example when we learned the mother was sick or after the ML abandoned his passion for swimming and disappointed his father. I think they could have expanded a bit more to make the audience resonate with the characters and their struggles.
The biggest turn off for me was how obsessed the FL was with the ML (and probably vice versa?). She completely ignores her family, her friends, even herself because she wants to save the ML. I believe writernim wanted to showcast a pure love that is willing to go through sacrifices but the way it was portrayed felt more like infatuation rather than a true mature love. Then we get the whole traveling back in time over and over again with no actual movement to the plot. It just made the story stagnate, frustrating the watcher.
I'm not posting a full review because I actually had to drop the drama mid way after it went downhill.
This drama was over-rated by the hype and the characters good looks.
As a sidenote, do not pay attention to the fans that come after you because of your review. People need to understand that having actors with good looks doesn't make a drama good. A good drama should be rated beyong those superficial details. But I know there are a lot of maybe younger fans/watchers who might have been the right audience for this drama.
I've seen it mentioned a fair bit that the family is being easily fooled but It is important to note that the…
Very good point and kudos to the writers for this. While people might find the family members to be fools for being deceived, it's important to note that this is a plan that has taken years. I find it more realistic and believable to be deceived by close family members, and long time acquaintances, than being deceived by random people the family just met. I do like this part of the plot when you can see that the enemy is closer than you think.
I'm on episode 5 and I have a lot of things to say about this drama.
So far, it's not bad overall but I was expecting a bit more than the typical perfect rich ML and the bubbly FL. This drama is extremely average and lacks uniqueness. It's very cliche:
-Rich ML with family issues and with a past trauma. -Plain FL with average personality and no emotional depth. -The typical perfect CEO falling for the average girl. -The typical stranded on an island/faraway place together and getting drunk episode. -The classic annoying pursue of the ML because apparently he's a child and doesn't know how to communicate his feelings in a straight way. -The typical FL in distress that needs to be saved by the ML.
And this is only up to episode 5 LMAO...We have seen this same story, the same FL and the same ML a million times in other dramas. Nothing special about this one.
Despite having so many cliches, it's still enjoyable. But definitely a disappointment considering that this drama was popular when airing.
while I get that they’re going for a different approach, they can’t just change fundamental plot points about…
I agree on your comment about the mom. I feel like, the mom's role is over-shadowing the main character role, at least on episode one. I haven't watched episode 2 but I hope it gets better. I want to see more of Namsoon. It's cool they are trying to show the mom as a super badass character but it feels they are trying too hard.
If you're on episode 11 and think the FL is "extremely annoying" this may just not be the drama for you. Most…
Not sure what you mean by "got YT's personality". She was portrayed as a serious character during the first minutes of the show. Suddenly, she became annoying to make the ML not want to marry her which was understandable but once in the Heavenly Realm, she continued to behave childish, like a spoiled brat for the sake of the comedy. Whereas her sister has a more mature character. There are some scenes FL is portrayed as "smart" and "mature" but her character is not very consistent. Despite that, I'm still enjoying the show mainly cuz of the second couple but I will continue watching since I believe there's some character development and there's a lot more episodes left.
I'm on episode 11 and I feel 0 chemistry between the leads. The FL is extremely annoying and the ML is boring. I hate that writers sacrifice FL character for comedy. I'm hoping the relationship between the leads gets better.
