It's very engaging and gripping. Most of the characters are fascinating. I hope it keep the fast pace and intrigue until the end.

It's because people tend to rate before finishing, watching or even airing a drama and in this case they either rate so high( like dramas with top idols as MRs) or rate so low. I still haven't watched all subbed but from what I saw it was a decent and well made drama

Yeah, even funnier is that in Ashes of Love (in what little I saw) it was Yukee who was more invested and bold in her love and although it was requited, Tung Wei was more wary and uncertain. Here the role of the pursuer was reversed and it was unrequited.

It has more to do with casts' fans and less with actual quality of drama

It Is overrated but I think 5/10 would be underrated as well. Personally I think it's a 7.5/10

I first watched Novelist and honestly I didn't enjoy it very much, they didn't have much chemistry together and there was too many illusions and fantasy in it for my taste. I didn't know it had a prequel about Kido and Kijima, I liked their relarionship and I wanted it to be more and real instead of Kuzumi's imaginations. Then I found this last week and I watched it. It was far better than novelist and very more with a much better constructed story. It still had space for improvement and some parts were annoying, but all in all it's a very good story of a doomed love that never got to be fully bloomed.

You may have ssen that he has a vast career with many films and occaitionally tv series. I haven't seen his works from 2018ish onward but I like the ones in his middle cearer the best.The ones I can remember now that are among his bests are Painted skin (2008)( I became a fan with this), Mulan (2009) and Dragon gate (2011) and they are particularly my own favourites. There is Balzac (2003) which is a bit weird but it's worth seeing a very young Chen Kun. I hope if you watch these, you would enjoy them as much as i did.

Even worse than ML is dumba** FL. A perfect match really. I agree with you on draggy story. It felt like writers literally had pulled the two ends of plot to make it longer.
