Best things in Goblin: cinematography, exquisite lines(although many mistranslated subs ruined it), great acting. Also the background music.
As for the story line, like most dramas are, first half is better than the latter half episodes, but I feel it's manage to stay strong till the end, and did better job than any other k drama. Every episodes work together like a puzzle and I really enjoyed it!
Some talk about their age gap. IThe meaning of 9 is important hint in this drama and that's why it shows her life in 9, 19, and 29 year old. On the other hand, Kim Shin has to be someone who has all the wisdom, divinity, agony, burden through 939 years, so a 20s actor doesn't fit the role. Also, goblins(dokebi) has an image of Ajeossi not Oppa in Korea. Finally when Euntak is 29, they are just like a normal couple in 30s. Consequentially the age gap was unavoidable to make the basic scenario.

At first, there were criticism on this relationship of a high shcool girl and a man in 30s' also in Korea. But now, most don't care about it anymore because now they find this drama has a plot that needs a set of 'an under age and an adult.' The meaning of 9 is important hint in the drama and that's why it shows her life in 9, 19, and 29. On the other hand, Kim Shin has to be someone who reveals all the wisdom, divinity, agony, burden on his face(enough to wish death). Most of all, goblins(dokebi) has an image of Ajeossi not young Oppa in Korea. Those character/plot-sets make (kind of) unavoidable age gap. And I find the writer is also recognized this issue when she came up with the scenario, looking at the lines like "Ji Eun-tak with her sugar daddy" when a bully was gossiping about Eun-tak in episode 2, or the quite long scene that shows they celebrate her coming of age.

This drama's another English name is Gardian(which I think it's more proper than Goblin because dokebi is different from western goblin). Kim Shin starts as her gardian, but the way the writer slowly develops their relationship as a couple was convincing for me, so after a few episodes this love line didn't feel so wrong. And when Euntak becomes 29, they are just like a normal couple in 30s. I think someone younger actor in his 20s wouldn't be able to satisfy all those factors. Maybe that's why the writer had convinced Gong Yoo to take the role for 5 years. He is old enough to be a lonely god and young enough to be a playful goblin at the same time, and Kim Go-eun can act from teenager to adult. Although it's not a morally desirable relationship, consiquently it was necessary for the story and even helpful for making an unique chemistry in this fantasy romance.

And about the goblin and reaper, I can't agree with you more!
