Yeah, I was looking forward to Mew but then I was like what's happening? Ray is a red flag just like literally…
Honestly, the whole Ray and Mew sort of dating thing is really icky to me. Like it was obvious to me that Mew was just using Ray to feel better right from the start. Dude had a very short glow-up when he was in his vengeance era and I loved seeing him actually put his foot down. But what he's doing to Ray... Nah fam. That's just needlessly cruel to someone he himself said never hurt him and always was there for him. Mew is obviously using Ray to feel loved and to make Top jealous.
He's started drinking, smoking and dressing differently all on his own accord. Ray just isn't stopping him, because he is most likely aware (at least on some subconscious level) that Mew isn't doing this for the right reasons. That he's being used. And I don't necessarily think Ray is still as deeply in love with Mew as before. There is definitely some obsessive elements to it, like he has desperately clung to this one person who showed him kindness in his darkest times. And because he's been in love for so long, it's hard to let go and realize the feelings are not the same anymore.
Idk, they all have problems (except Cheum and April, bless those girls) and are deeply flawed people. But I see a glimmer of light in all of them. I don't WANT to see it in Top, and I'm not ready to just forgive and forget because he's a little sad and weepy. Loved seeing Ton being pissed at Nick though. Deserved.
I'm lowkey living for Boston in the recent episodes. Like yes, he's still an asshole, always has been, but he's not emotionless. Him turning Nick away at the party was honestly so valid. Like, he told this guy "I don't do serious relationships" "last guy I was with secretly recorded me and used as blackmail" and then Nick not only does THE EXACT SAME THING, he also tells his friends about the other recording and give his former friends the opportunity to also blackmail him with outing him and ruining his father's political career. And though they were his "friends", they all kept saying he was a bad guy and an asshole all. The. Time. Like, I bet part of the reason why he was always so disinterested was because he thought they didn't really like him. They constantly berated him for being promiscuous, when that only really became a problem when he slept with Top.
Don't get me wrong, he's still a piece of shit. But like, he has depth to him that we only recently got to see. He cares about his dad and has been hurt by previous relationships. I bet he had a serious relationship in the past that was really toxic, which is why he has sworn off romance completely.
Idk, things are getting interesting. I just wish Mew would've stayed in vengeance mode a bit longer.
(Not so) patiently waiting for the absolute shitstorm that is going to come in the next episode, where I think a LOT of things are going to be revealed. Can't wait to learn what hidden darkness lies within Mew... The boy is sus.
I can't even begin to understand the underlying political or historical implications of the show based on the short summary. I am not Korean. It is not my place to say whether 'Snowdrop' is using and twisting real historical events or not.
However, I do hope that what JTBC said in their statement is true, and that the show get to be aired now that they are close to wrapping up shooting. Not only for the sake of the cast and crew, but because this topic is one that I had not heard about prior to this show, and probably would've never known of had this issue not become so public. I had planned on watching 'Snowdrop' when I saw the cast, as I think is the case for quite a number of people. If the show airs, and it stays true to the actual historical events, I believe it could be a gateway for many non-Korean viewers to learn something about the history behind their democratic movement.
Of course, there are going to be some discrepancies, because it is fiction. It's not a documentary. But, it would reach a broader audience than a straight up documentary on the topic would. (In a similar way to 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas') And topics like these, hardships and struggles that people have been through throughout history, need to be talked about. I hope that this show could present the opportunity to start real conversations. I for one am very interested to know more already.
Whether the show gets cancelled or not, I will still be excided to learn about the history of different cultures though the shows they produce. Be it french or korean, brazilian or vietnamese. If I'm gonna watch a heck-ton of shows, I might as well learn *something* along the way, right?
Those are all way to accurate lmao
