I am a bit conflicted about him. I am glad he could finally admit his wrongs and the fact that he was ashamed of his actions. If the drama had been longer, I think it would probably have taken some more time for Yetan to forgive him. But since it was only 40 episodes and well for obvious reasons they wanted Yetan to have one family member to support her in the end. The character on it's own is also cowardly so I think that is the biggest reason why he never did stand up to his ministers. Like even Qingkui said that their dad was a coward, and during the first Guixu event he went away to safety. I do believe that there are probably some parents that are like him though irl, they recognize their wrongs later in life and try to make up for it. It still does not make the wrongs right but it is better then never admitting you were wrong at least.
Well this has been a wild ride for sure. I am a little disappointed with how things were wrapped up there are endings could have been worse then what we got. I have had a great time chatting with so many nice people here, I hope everyone will be able to find a new drama to enjoy soon.
