So based on start of ep 9 I guess Jin Yan and Bian Jie got into a shoving match due to the knife, she wanted to stop him from leaving and he wanted to leave. So he was accidentally pushed onto the nun-chucks, which leaves a scar on his head. So in the early ep where she was his hair after cutting it, she couldn't find the scar and therefore realized he wasn't the real Bian Jie.
