wouldn't say different story lines. The scenes that are in the past, which is the majority, is kind of telling you the events that led to their situation in the future.

It similar to the drama "To love" which had scenes from the present, and then we travelled to the past to see the events that led to the situation in the future. For me, at least, it's easy to know when we are in the present and in the future.
