I find the comments in this platform quite entertaining and not at all toxic. It's particularly interesting to…
I completely agree, the love triangle has always been the central theme of the drama. Notwithstanding that the promos were misleading us to think that it's main theme is the struggles of young people in the business world, it could still have turned into a beautiful romantic story that many people would have enjoyed. There's not only one thing that has gone wrong with this drama, but I'll just talk about the central theme here. Ji Pyung undoubtedly has to be the main lead (that doesn't necessarily mean that he has to get the girl) but romantic scenes between Do San and Dal Mi that seem to come right out of a Kdrama clichee storybook have been dominating the screen and there's still no end to it even though we only have two episodes left. It has become just frustrating to watch.
I'm now pretty convinced that the writer seriously overestimated her capabilities due to the immense love and praise her previous works received (there's an actual term for this kind of phenomenon but it doesn't come to my mind right now). She most likely wanted to pull off a Cyrano de Bergerac, and if that wasn't hard enough yet, weave it into a motivational story about youths in the business world, and on top of that, also create new kinds of characters that the Kdrama world hasn't seen before. Since the starting point of everything was her ambition to recreate Cyrano de Bergerac, this would also explain why the drama has turned into 90% love triangle right now, as the heartwrenching love story is the central theme for her. Though, not even geniuses would be able to pull off all that and thus the writer obviously got lost in the middle and created a huge mess instead.
Based on this, both Dodal and Miji outcomes are possible.
Dodal: If Dodal is the endgame, then the writer wanted to show us the beautiful and heartwrenching selfless love of a man (Ji Pyung) who was never blessed by fate. If this was her plan though, she should have chosen melodrama as the genre and maybe also made it clear from the very start that the story is centered on Ji Pyung. This kind of ending is completely out of place in a youth motivational drama and actually even demotivates instead.
Miji: If Miji is the endgame, she's giving Cyrano de Bergerac a twist by rewarding Ji Pyung for his selfless love, which could indeed be seen as motivational, and since it's supposed to be a youth motivational drama, I'm betting on this ending. Though, she clearly failed to execute it well and is only evoking frustration in us.
Edit: The title was supposed to be Sandbox but they couldn't use it because there's a real company with the same name and thus they changed it to Start-Up instead. If we see Sandbox as the title, the story suddenly makes sense since Ji Pyung is Dal Mi's Sandbox and the drama centers on Ji Pyung. It was never about businesses.
Suddenly remember the winter-garden couple from Hospital Playlist, how the writer put subtle hint to their endgame,…
This is actually very likely imo and could have been amazing if done right. But the execution was really poor. Handling angst well isn't an easy job and the writer obviously crossed the border and landed in the territory of frustration. And since the drama is highly focusing on the love triangle, this has turned out to be fatal.
In Ep. 14 when HJP says "I'm pretty sure I have the right."This is the single most powerful statement in the whole…
That line somehow really touched me even already when I saw it in the preview last week and I couldn't even explain this to myself. It was indeed very powerful and you perfectly explained why!
wow, this gave me goosebumps. It's heartbreaking yet beautiful at the same time.
Stellar! Kim Seon Ho keeps making me speechless. He really deserves all the love and recognition in the whole world. I'm sure he'll become one of the biggest names of Korea.
First post here. I find it fun to review and I understand the frustration regarding HJP and NDS.Myself I quite…
I agree with you. The writer definitely took inspiration from Cyrano de Bergerac (it was even mentioned in an interview with Kim Seon Ho) and it's very interesting to see a modern Korean take on it. The idea behind the drama itself is brilliant and had so much potential. Sadly, the writer failed to execute it well. Let's hope that, despite the poor execution, she still knows what she's doing and will make the ending plausible by pairing Dal Mi up with Ji Pyung. Everything else would just be pure nonsense. One thing that the writter did really well despite the lacking plot though is the character of Ji Pyung. He's one to be remembered for a very long time.
My personal worst drama of the year so far stands at 7.3. So maybe 7.5?Edit: Oh wait, I completely forgot that…
Good decision to drop it. The story was pure bullsh*t. The FL never apologized to the ML for not telling him about their child till the very end. Instead, they kept talking about how he had to earn the right to be a father to their daughter since he hadn't been in her life so far (which wasn't even his fault but the FLs lmfao). And guess what, he never earned that right and even watched his daughter's wedding just from behind (which is shown in the last few minutes). Furthermore, he apologized to the FL a thousand times for his past wrongdoings (even though it was all just a freaking banal misunderstanding). She kept ignoring him and assumed he's just making excuses and he really did cheat on her until she heard the same things that he had been trying to tell her all this time from someone else again. Then, she was suddenly completely in love with him again and they started dating (but it stayed just dating). Oh right, and the second, third and fourth MLs all punched the first ML for being a jerk (even though he did nothing wrong) lmfao. And his best friend of 15 years also betrayed him because he had been in love with the FL all this time.
