It does seem perfectly timed, kinda sus.... I'm not taking any sides but like there's also been other bullying//…
Apparently, their main search engine, Naver, is removing the trending searches which appear on the home page (where everyone sees it immediately) soon. The trending tags are the main reason why scandals spread, so people are probably seeing this as their last chance to really spread the word about their experiences (or to freely slander one last time). Doesn't have to be a government conspiracy!
Helpful review! I did enjoy this drama, but probably not the way the writers intended. I enjoyed it as a parody (even though it's probably not intended as one) and played a little "catch the red flags" game. It was just so ridiculous that it became funny to me - ended up laughing my butt off. They really threw in every (toxic) trope they could think of!
Wow, u spotted the mistake which I or even the editors didn't, so points for that! :)All things from the history…
Thanks - I'm studying literature, English and film and have a love for all things vampire, so I noticed pretty quickly (moreover, I had my exam on nineteenth-century literature literally four days ago, haha) :) I still don't entirely agree with your statement on the history, but it's complex and I get where you're coming from, so I'll leave it at that. It is a well-known example and I see why you used it now; I suppose I may have misread it a bit, so I'm sorry about that. It is interesting to point out, however - from a film lover's perspective, that is - that the first Twilight movie is vastly different from the later ones, since it had a different director and a far smaller budget (it was pretty much an indie movie). If you look closely at the CGI, you can see differences there as well, but it is still a very good movie franchise to compare it to. I also believe you would get a similar response had you used a different example since everyone has their own opinion on the subject. I'm glad you wrote about it, though! You make some interesting points and you did make me think, so thank you! :)
I did not choose Twilight because it's the most realistic one nor because I like the books/movies. It's because…
Yes, the movie adaptation of that was quite popular as well (and still holds up as a pretty good vampire movie!). Other vampire movies also made it big at the time, like the umpteenth movie adaptation of Dracula and the 1987 movie "The Lost Boys"; or even the late 90s series Buffy The Vampire Slayer (which was a movie first).
Nice article. I like your ideas and I get where you're coming from, but I disagree with the second half of it and the short summary of the history of vampires you give irks me a bit. It isn't entirely accurate. Most cultures have had vampire or vampire-like stories for millenia and while it is true that they don't have the same attributes we give them today, originally a vampire was just described as "a being (or demon or spirit) which feeds on the energy, flesh or blood of living beings to survive". The vampire myth is not at all a European myth, even if many of the common modern characteristics are from European mythology. The strange powers such as shapeshifting, controlling animals etcetera can also be found in other cultures' mythology. Although, it is true that "Vampyre", "Carmilla" and "Dracula" really started a vampire craze. However, you made a small mistake in the timeline there: "The craze then continued with the famous horror novel 'Dracula' and in 1872 a lesbian vampire novel, ‘Carmilla’ was born." I just wanted to point out that Carmilla was written before Dracula (since Dracula only came out in 1897). The reason why vampires are such popular beings is not because you should copy previous work, but because, due to the many different stories found in folklore, you can really pick and choose which elements you want to adopt and really make it your own thing. I enjoy vampires as a creative sort of fantasy beings and I like seeing what different people do with the mythology. If someone were to copy the vampires from Twilight, I wouldn't enjoy that - that'd just get on my nerves. Saying that shows that come after Twilight should have learned how to portray vampires realistically is strange, since everyone has their own take on vampires and the vampires in Twilight aren't exactly perfectly thought-through or realistically portrayed either.
(For a random and unknown western show recommendation, I recommend the CBBC show "Young Dracula", which starts out as a kids show but becomes pretty good in the later seasons. It has mythology based on Dracula, evil vampires, good vs. evil debates, hunters vs. vampires etc. - even though it's a kids show, it's worth a watch (it gets a lot better from season 3, by the way))
Wtf, sounds like watching drama is your job and you have to meet a quota. Why not watching to enjoy a drama and…
I'm a film student, so I do try to watch as many things as possible while trying to keep up with my studies, but that's not the main reason why I watch at a faster pace. I tend to find the pacing in many dramas to be a tad too slow and some scenes are really stretched out with the same scene from different perspectives and that can bother me. It's just a preference and I enjoy dramas more like this. It's not about finishing as fast as I can at all.
I have an extension in my browser that allows me to speed up videos on every website so that I can watch more drama episodes in a day and programs on my pc that also allow me to watch dramas faster if I download them. I don't have to avoid the 40+ episode dramas! :)
