The lead actor is of the exact age where the real Liu Yikang died getting suffocated with a blanket by a court…
If they would have read the comment properly, they'd know that I never said anything bad about the two leads, quite the contrary, but well, reading and understanding are not everyone's strength...

To criticise doesn't mean one does not enjoy something.

You must have received many heavy beatings to know exactly how it feels and when it starts bleeding, right???

When did I say, I don't like Li Qin??? Show me that...
For your informaton: She's one of my faves ever since Princess Agents!!!

Where did I say, that the ML bothers be??? Show me that...

You haven't even read what I wrote and I doubt you understood what's meant, you just can't take that someone does not rate your fave drama a ten...

You can tell people are so biased. This drama is outstanding and getting better and better. It is rated so low…
The lead actor is of the exact age where the real Liu Yikang died getting suffocated with a blanket by a court official sent to him by his brother Liu Yilong (Emperor Wen). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liu_Yikang

So, for me, favouring actors 30+, 35+ and upward anyway, the age of Qin Hao is perfect.

Therefore, the reason why my rating for this series is rather low, so far (after having watched 12 of 53 episodes), has nothing to do with the age of the cast or if they are famous or not. Actually, I don't really care about cast members being famous or not, at all. They must be able to perform well, that's what interests me.

So, why is my rating that low, at the moment:

1. The heroine and the villain:
Li Qin definitley performs a strong female lead, but there is no balance between her performance and the performance of her antagonist.
Might be that some find it cool that the villain does not show emotions while obviously hiding them inside and showing us an expressionless face with a constant arrogant smile - I found it to be boring after about half an hour into the first episode.

2. So many details and still not focussing on details:
In episode 11 a heavy beating gets carried out, the prisoners wear white and - oh, what a miracle - not a single drop of blood stains the prisoners' bright white clothes.
This kind of beating was not meant to pet someone. This kind of punishment was carried out to hurt and to be painful. No one, who'd receive a beating would wear clothes afterwards looking as if they got just pulled out of the laundry dryer...

3. The fights scenes are average
Watching "Love In-Between" and "Song of Glory" parallel, at the moment, gives me the chance to compare the choreography of the fight scenes. Who ever did the swordfight training and the swordfight choreography for "Love In-Between", did a fantastic job if it comes to fierceness, passion, footwork etc. while the ones done for "Song of Glory" surley come with some nice extras (like the leads staring at each other in slow-motion while the FL does a stunt over the ML) but without some really mindblowing and swashbuckling swordfighting.

There are still 40+ episodes left, so, my rating might change as the show continues, but for now and for me, it will remain exactly the way, I rated it.

I really dislike that most c-dramas only focus on the leading couple in the end. The writers rarely care about…
It happens in episode 22.

This drama sets focus on so many details and, then, the beating in episode 11 goes without a single drop of blood staining the white prisoner clothes...??? Um...yes...ok...

Yep! I agree! Well, we'll see.
My first task, now: Finishing "Love In-Between". All the rest will be the yummy icing on a yummy cake. lol

Many thanks again!
I really love Huang Hai Bing, so, I'm very happy to find that he already has three new costume dramas in the works.
I love his 'dark side' in "Love In-Between' and I thought he'd make a great villain in a different drama, especially as he never played a really mean villain before, if I'm right.
(I don't consider the King of Zhao in "Love Lasts Two Minds" an actual villain)
To see him perform a dark knight or a powerful demon lord (not one of those rather comical idiot demons, but a truly powerful one) would be absolutley thrilling.

Title Love in Between Spoiler

Aww, thank you!
Someone said in a comment, he ended up thrown down a well, in one scene (I'm not there, yet). That must have been kind of fun for Huang Hai Bing and stirred up some memories as he ended up thrown down a well, too, when he performed Chai Jin in iconic "Water Margin" (2011).

Yep! Totally agree!

Oh, by the way, do you have any idea, if Su Xuan is alive in the end? From the comments, I read, so far, it could be either way...

Yes, same goes for me. If a story is written well, the side characters and co-stars are there to add to the story not just to get slaughtered for the leading couple's glory like it happens in many dramas.

It's so well written and performed. I'm not the one to cry easily, but when she broke down in the rain with that lantern and suddenly the umbrella appeared to shelter her, I lost it.
The whole love, jealousy, cold shoulder and reunion parts are written and performed so beautifully and lovely, one could almost think, the writers loved them more than the leading couple (which wouldn't really surprise me - I do too)...

I beg to disagree. Qi Ji looks & acts like an underhanded, sneaky bad guy. The worse people I've met are ones…
I get your point, but I still prefer when an actor at least wrinkles his nose or furrows his brow from time to time.
The late Sir Christopher Lee was definitely one of the best on-screen villains the movie world ever had been blessed with, but he played each of them all different - because, even a villain has moments in private where he doesn't need to hide his true intentions.
So, no offense meant, but I won't faint over the villain's performance in "Song of Glory".
It's all about different tastes in actors and performances and that's absolutely ok.

Yes, I agree about the second couple.
I'm all in love with Wen Si Yuan and Chen Man Qing. Their story is beautiful.

My poor Wen Si Yuan had to resort to bargaining his help for a little "chat" time with his lady love.
I really dislike that most c-dramas only focus on the leading couple in the end.
The writers rarely care about all those, who helped the OTP reach their aim, be it family, teachers or friends.
Something, I find totally annoying and pathetic, especially as the sidecouples/sidecharacters are so often way more interesting than the main couples.

Li Qin is such a badass heroine - and they weren't able to find her an antagonist who's on the same acting level...???
Staring gloomily into space and wearing a dumb smile paved over his face has nothing to do with acting.
I've seen so many baddies over the decades: mean ones, charming, ones, dangerous ones, handsome ones, misunderstood ones, powerful and weak ones - but at least they got actors able to perform. But here...???
Even my best friend's cat has better acting skills than the bad guy chosen for this series.

Every single wuxia drama I watched last year focussed on playing with the viewers'emotions, but just an okay plot.…
Yep! The dumbest rom-com crap gets subs as soon as two episodes are out, but the great ones, the rare gems, seem to be of no interest for the subbers.
Must be too much work to sub more substancial texts than the stupid blabla for the mushy idiocy mass-productions.

Li Qin shines so bright in this drama. I used to watch many of her dramas but never found her as good as in this…
Li Qin is a woman, now, turning 30 in a few weeks, and no longer a little newbie actress with soft girlie features.
She grew in acting, experience, looks and personality.
And that's exactly, why I personally prefer actors and actresses round their thirties and older: because they are actors and actresses, now, and not little idols any longer, who got carried by the waves and the hype, only, artificially created around them.
Li Qin looks feminine, now, grown-up and she definitely developed her skills and spread her wings. She's a character actress, now.
