lol ITSAY and IPYTM came out of Thailand. Lots of good BLs have. But this was a disaster.
I agree with your first point. I think you put it very well.
On you second point, I am sorry that that is your experience with the term, and I’m sure there are cultural differences between us, so I will not force you to use it about yourself. However I am free to use it about myself, as is natan, just like some gay men like to use the f-word about themselves. Queer is not a “trendy term” within academia where I work. If you read up on the history, it has at least half a century’s history of academic use and work on reclaiming the term. The reason I use queer here, is because I don’t owe it to you strangers online to define exactly what I am. The term is meant to be inclusive of everyone no matter if they are questioning, genderqueer, asexual etc. It allows us to group together rather than split ourselves into tiny groups and fight amongst ourselves. I am sorry if I caused you pain, but the term has helped me find community, so I will not stop using it.

I think we went wrong by not defining the terms we are discussing. So I want to make it clear that by “bad” I mean low quality (acting, writing, editing, etc). When I think something is bad representation, I will call it “harmful”. I don’t personally think a show being bad makes it harmful, but if you do then we can discuss from that perspective.
I would love to discuss more or refer you to some sources, if you are interested. But please message me in that case, as I will not reply here again.
I hope you find some BLs you can enjoy and that you have a nice day :)

Besides that I disagree with your point that you shouldn’t be watching BLs if you want social justice. I think shows like Lovely Writer and maybe Call It What You Want (I haven’t seen it yet) show that BL can be used to critique injustice regarding queerness. We should critique things that are harmful, while also being mindful of the people who did their best behind the scenes.

I think you make a lot of assumptions about me based on nothing. 1. I am a queer person and care a lot about representation. I am a researcher who studies queer representation, and my findings show that there is no such thing as “perfect representation”, instead lots of diverse representation is what is needed. I personally don’t think this show is bad representation, just because the acting is bad. I dislike shows that romanticize sexual assault much more. 2. I also think this show is bad! I still thought it was fun to watch! Both can be true 😄 3. I 100% encourage discussion and critique! What I don’t agree with is the fact that “thailand should stop”. As mentioned before, the path to good representation is creating lots of different kinds. Furthermore, I believe that some luck is involved in creating something that is incredibly good, like the more times you roll a die, the more likely you are to roll a 6. So I think we should keep rolling, and then keep the 6s and leave the others to be forgotten.

Why does it matter to you if bad BLs exist? just don’t watch them? The more BLs are made, the more likely some of them will be good or interesting, so I don’t think it is ever helpful to stop. Instead, please go support the ones that are good 😊
This drama was exactly what I needed: A trashy, funny (cringy), low emotional investment, romantic comedy 😄 I could have done with fewer fight scenes, and my favorite episodes were when they went camping. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this show.
Which platform do you think is cheaper or worth subscribe?
Gagaoolala is cheaper if you subscribe for one month and watch all of them within that time. But buying them on Vimeo means you get to keep them forever. So it depends what you want :)

I started watching the Given anime and will make sure to check out the others!
