FL is dumb for believing the 2FL's machinations. I get that she has trauma from her past relationship, but the reason of breaking up is just flimsy. I think that is part of the plot that I am not really sold with, especially since they have quite a mature relationship. Misunderstandings such as that would have make sense if this was a high school romance. π
Other than that, I enjoyed watching the leads' banter during the earlier episodes. WHZ was at his roguish, charming best and Lu Lu was quite cute in her reactions. Their chemistry is flaming hot, and it showed in their intimate scenes quite well. π
This is one of those trashy melodramas with an angsty ML who keeps choking (it's on one of the stills) and assaulting the doormat FL. π«£π I'm staying because of the acting; WHZ is giving out lessons on how to be a mentally-ill, toxic republican-era ML. π
This is the first time I've properly watched a Zhang Ji Jun starrer, and I'm bashing myself for not paying attention to his works. π« I sure missed out a lot! He's mesmerizing in this role, and the switch from a vulnerable lad to a hardened heir of a business empire is just effortless. ππ«‘ What an accomplished actor! And he cries beautifully, too. π
While I am one of those very few, if not the only one π , who does not get the Meng Na hype, I have to admit that she is slaying in this role of a femme fatale. Her chemistry with Zhang Ji Jun is just electrifying. I normally don't watch Meng Na, but this drama (despite being 3 hours long), is simply to good to pass up because of the CP's sizzling act.
I had fun watching the MLs' bromance. Their chemistry is sizzling hot. π― I especially like ZZD's acting in the last 15 minutes of the drama; he was the Yin to Wang Xuan's Yang. π There was a certain scene wherein his feminine energy was so strong, I thought that he looked like a long-suffering and martyred female lover. π€£
FL's acting is lacking when compared to ZZD. π A pity, because visually, they looked great together. Chemistry-wise though, it's zero - except for that ending scene in the rain where they sizzled during the kiss. π Aside from that moment, their intensity does not just match most of the time.
Storytelling is a bit patchy; I am not sure if it's an editing issue or the script itself. Costume and set-design are gorgeous; I also love the photography. There's no overuse of filters, and I can actually see the skin texture of the actors. π Makeup of the butler is just campy; he's a visual delight or horror (depending on your taste) whenever he's on screen. π
Overall, a visually beautiful vertical drama. But meh on the storytelling aspect. The script has potential; just have to weave the plot and tie up the story arcs better.

But really, WHZ was on his S-tier acting mode here. Bai Yan was also good, but WHZ just overshadowed her in some of the intense scenes.
