Tbh I'm disappointed in this series, I was expecting more and better. It didn't start with a boom (I mean it wasn't so eye catching and interesting like for ex. the first episode of The Trainee), but I thought maybe later episodes would improve (like the We Are series did in my opinion) instead the episodes that came after left me with this feeling of nothingness.
I feel the choice of the direction to make the series feel like manga/anime was not the best, they were trying to make the product seem like something that came straight from Japan, but without so much success.
In my opinion they should have done like they did for MSP, where they took the main plot points and played more with the characters and story (ex. Tinn is such a red flag in the novel but in the series he is so supportive of Gun). Here they followed much more strictly the source material, but without playing, adapting and expanding the characters and the situation they are in. One of the biggest changes was the family situation for Atom and that was maybe because there would have been too many characters to manage. The characters don't feel fully alive, there is something missing, for example the friendship between Atom and Half is almost non existing and they are supposed to be best friends. They should have put more original parts in the series like the glass bridge scene, one of my fave scenes in the series (there aren’t so many). -The comparison is made between MSP and MLMU not only because GeminiFourth are the main couple but also because the director is the same.-
The relationship between Kongthap and Atom is so stiff, like their kisses, and I blame this on the director. I know that the character of Kongthap in the beginning isn’t so familiar with the concept of love but at episode 11 where in the series they have been together for some time already, their dynamic should feel more like boyfriends and not whatever this was.
The kiss scene was directed strangely and to me it seems that they were instructed not to move too much, to make it feel like in the manga (we all saw that they can do normal kiss scenes in MSP), same thing for their first “kiss”, they were directed to make only their lips touch and not to move, plus that scene was also so badly cut with the interluding of the games.
Also for Mudmee and Half, if the actors were not comfortable with the kiss, because this is their first work, you could make them hug and add like a cheek kiss instead of the weird angled shot. Same for the firework scene, why didn’t they make them side-hug or is it really so hard to add a cheek/forehead kiss to make the relationship feel more real (this is a problem that also other series have, just my opinion).
Now I’m waiting for the last episode to air only to finish this disappointing series that I was expecting with so much hope. Gemini and Fourth are one of my fave cp from Gmm and the reason is their previous works, Heartliming was for me the best part in Moonlight Chicken, were they make the character feel so real, mind you that was their first work together and MSP became my comfort series because of all the characters, their interactions and the way they feel real. MLMU did not deliver neither with characters and interactions between them, the closer they got to a good relationship was in the beginning the friendship of Atom and Mudmee.
The ads of a product are supposed to make you want to buy it… the product placement in this series made me never want to see the products ever again in my life. I know that they need advertisements in their series to make some money back for the company but they should learn how to make them more subtle and not like this, it stops the flow of the series to only concentrate on the product.
One last thing why during the whole series when a scene is shot outside or when the light seems more intense the whole thing gives the feeling of blurriness, like am I the only one that sees it.
