To an extent, it is Korean dramas but you can definitely find it in Chinese dramas and Japanese dramas as well.
But in Chinese and Japanese dramas this is not a rule, so it is good to have some dramas that represent weak people because they exist and it is good that they feel represented and see dramas where a weak person can become stronger, get there or be happy. Not every person feels represented by strong characters. Many Korean dramas also portray men with various weaknesses such as lack of maturity, materialism, ignorance, excessive shyness, wrong values, lack of education, difficulty in socializing, lack of communication and pride. But we do not talk about this because just like you said the drama audience is predominantly female and we tend to think things through our side. I myself do not see drama without romance, because work problems, with friendships and family, are already part of my day to day, in entertainment I often just want to rest my head and see something really sweet. When I want to think I see a political epic that is very far from my modern reality. In my country we have many problems to worry about and problematize, so dramas for me are more a relaxation, a fairy tale. I think dramas, nowadays, have for all tastes, it's just a matter of looking even if it's outside the Korean dramas.

I think this subject is very much about Korean drama, Chinese drama is not like that, especially the period, where even women having less social and political power than men (because it was like that at the time), they are super strong and fight within the reality in which they live. This description is more for the Korean dramas of romance, which has an audience that seeks it, so they are so popular. I do not see anything wrong if the person likes it, because dramas are entertainment. I think it's good to separate reality fiction, because there are movies, games and series, of terror, violence, crimes and the people who watch them do not become criminal or violent for it, it's a matter of taste. If the person likes more strong protagonists just look for such dramas, drama has for all tastes but in reality some people want to see always the same thing. Dramas are also made for their own cultures and peoples, we must respect this, we may like it or not, they are not made concerned with the world taste.
