I just want to add that Consort Li's sacrifice- I did not see it coming

I thought her love for the emperor was only a facade for manipulations and benefits, but in the end, she actually stood up like a Queen to protect him

In season 1, I was not a big fan of Wan'er. She always seemed to be pitiful and crying every other episode

But in S2, she seems to have matured, there is an aura of resilience about her, and also I am impressed by her insights about the palace politics which she shares with FX.

In S2, her character arc has taken the mantle of FL in a better way, rather than being just FX's love interest- now she is like his shelter from all the conviving and plotting that is going on, and you can truly see Fan Xian's peace and relief when he is with her. She seems to be the only
pure part of his tumultuous life. With her, he shows his most vulnerable self.


I am happy they did not go by the novel where she seems to me like a trophy wife and FX seem to share a deeper bond with Haitang.

I think this series had huge potential with the powerhouse of main leads and rest of the cast- but somehow storyline was like all over the place just to create suspense.
Even the motives of people made no sense to me.
