I think he on the verge of death due to extreme grief. XY is his everything. I haven't read the novel, but I get the feeling that even before the whole brother torture thing, he wasn't truly happy. Just my take.

I really hated on this character at the beginning, but he slowly changes over time. He is a very complex character and over time, you see why he is the way he is. I’m not condoning anything he has done, he’s sort of an antihero in this drama in my opinion.
There were a couple things about him that I found very interesting, one is that he likes to show her beautiful things, like lakes and under the ocean. And there’s a moment where he tells her that life is precious. After he said this I started looking at him in a different light
Wow, thank you for explaining that. I was really really hating on his character early on for how he treated her. I am really glad to see that he has change for the better. I kind of knew at the beginning what his fate was at the end, and I truly did not care at all, again because of how he treated her. But now I am dreading it.
