You will cry

Zhao LuSi is amazing, and the character she played won my heart. I've said it before and I'll say it again give us more FL that are strong and clever. Duan Wu was the embodiment of those qualities, moreover she was skilled.
What I learn as I watch chinese dramas is that they are most always beautiful sceneries, clouthing and hairstyles along with the most ugly betrayals and human greed
But the thing that this story left me with mostly is simply a broken heart. After all the battles it takes us through at the end was it really all worth it? (I asked myself)
It's better than it was, yes, but also did I cry? yes

(a rant)
Firstly - the story is ridiculous. I enjoyed it sure, and it wasn't bad. Still it went so over the board.
I still appreciate the range: there were botha green and a red flag next to each other in one frame (Lyu Xian and Xie Wei).

Xie Wei is so ridiculous I only agree to have him for Xue Ning and Yan Lin. He is lowkey suicidal, keeps hurting himself, is irritable and agressive, but also has pretty eyes, so I guess we like him.
I've seen said that both ML and FL in this drama are grey characters, so suitble for each other, but I don't agree. (What, a woman makes one mistake and suddenly she's as bad as a man who made 100). Whatever people say, Xie Wei is obssesive, childish and imposing. As I think about it, I didn't like him though the entirety of the drama, and still don't (the last scene made me like him less if anything).

Second - I love Xue Ning. I really enjoy the strong female leads that apeared in dramas over the recent years. The princess was awesome (she was a perfect princess), I still not quite over it that she fell for Xue Ning. Their friendship was one of the highlights of the show for me.
I liked how both the Jing and Yan fathers were good parents. Also the bromance of Xie Wei's guards (the wink!).

I love Xue Ning, she keeps her composure, helps women, and invested in stocks as soon as she traveled in time. She is the center of the story and the best part of it.
Stil I had a hard time, going over the last episodes of the the drama, it dragged some places, were other times it omitted characters until they had to die, or just never appeared again.

Overall it wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't watch it again. I always have a hard time ranking low dramas I invested my time in and sometimes had fun watching , so it's a 7

Forget that one scene from episode 1 and I say it's perfect.

Complex characters, good writing, both serious and silly - man the duality (xd)
I love a good falling in love as incident - came here for revenge but oops,
All of the show felt like smooth sailing to me, it was well paced. Music and cinematography created captivating scenes, sometimes beautiful and heartwreathing, but all in all worth all the whiles you have

/ps/ I feel Chi Cheng is the embodiment of what writers want their aloof MLs to be.
pps. In chinese shows they are all so thin, men, WSW is a bean

It was a story about humans and human nature, defects of the legal system, morality and family relations.
"The blood is thicker than water."

A play of expressions and symbols.
The camera work was beautiful; it struck me in the very first episode.

The characters were complex and well played out.

Music really amazing not only as a use in the story, but also a in itself.

Overall, one of the best ones I've watched.

-

It reminded me a bit of Twin Peaks.

As in:
A new cop goes to a weird small town, in which everyone seemes to have secrets.

I'd say Beyond Evil and Twin Peaks cross eachother somewhere, but are going elsewhere.

The start and most of the rest was not only good but awesome

And then there was episode 35, which was the start of the end and the end was so upsetting it was lowkey funny. I couldn't help but laugh at the endless reveals of the facemasks.
If I had a nickel for every time... I don't know what's up with Liu Yu Ning's dramas, I've seen this one and The Story of Pearl Girl and the convergent between them are upsetting.
I'm frustrated 'cause it's both understandable to not have a fairytail-like ending, it does not have to me always a happy ending, but fr i'd preffer it be. Sure the Marquise guy relapsed, or maybe never really got out of his obsession, but did I hope he got better after the shower by Ning? Yes.
Is what i'm saying kinda nonsensical? Maybe, but also I feel wronged

Firstly: the story.

The link between main characters reminded me of Goblin, which If you ask me is a pretty accurate observation. In both those girl is out of luck and out of family (o.0), good-hearted and strong (in a way), while the guy is a super-being, bound to appear whenever his lady calls. Here though the stories go their separate ways. (Obviously I’m not saying there couldn’t be found more similarities).

I must say I enjoyed most of the character in the show and their relationships. The story was a nice balance of humour, drama and bits of horror.
I liked how the reason for Kong’s love wasn’t ignored. Like - we knew it all along, but it was nice that it was reminded every then and again. Also the way the love all-together was treated was very humane. I like that it was perfectly understandable why she felt the way that she did. I think it shows good writing.
I liked that Sun Mi wasn’t just all fragile; a damsel in distress. /I like her more than the Goblin FL (but maybe that’s something about me)/

And though the overalls feelings were rather positive, there are some negatives that I cannot leave out.
Something that really bothered me was the unnaturality. Which may just be the very essence of kdrama, and it’s romcom genre. Something about the theatricality. How come they have so much monologues? It just seems scenic, and kind of pretentious.

Secondly: the music. As such it wasn’t bad. But it’s not just what, but how. And I didn’t appreciate the use of the ‘main song’. The one that must play in every episode, and it must be every slightly maybe romantic situation, so that I, the viewer don’t have a doubt who is supposed to fall for each other.

As for rewatch value i must admit i don’t know. I wouldn’t watch it again, but then again i rarely do rewatch, so I don’t know.

I’m not such If you could make something out of my rambling I just felt as though that my poinys may’ve accure to someone as well.
PS: As you may’ve notice English is not my first language, so if anything feels oddly worded – not you know why.
