Oh I forgot, one thing that struck me (don't laugh) in Gokusen was the contrast between the yakuza and gestures like when Yankumi stopped every morning at the altar of ancestors

I warn you that Dragon Zakura is different from Gokusen and GTO. There are hardly any fights, but the relationship between the teacher and the students remains. I found psychological techniques to help boys study interesting. They weren't my first dramas (the first ever was "Bambino!") but they are the ones who made me understand that in Asian dramas I could find things different from Western TV series, even see how they live in cultures different from ours.

I don't remember much, many years have passed since I saw it too. During that time I saw some Japanese dramas about school. So I don't remember if I have seen Gokusen before or before GTO which are similar even if different. I also saw Dragon Zakura at the time, did you see it? Yankumi..... I liked the character so much that I looked for other dramas with the same actress. But I have not found anything with the same effect.
I agree, nice series. Have you seen all 3 seasons? The story is simple, perhaps a little repetitive but full of good values even if it takes a little violence to make them emerge. I also liked the energy of the girl protagonist.
