My question is why the genre doesn't have romance in it?
Its a mother daughter relationship drama. There will be romance but not the focus. As of now we don't know the changes they have made and ML storyline will be new as it wasn't mentioned in the novel. The book had little romance so im guessing there will be more in the drama

Thats not her giving hope. He is the one who gave her hope. You will realise later that he himself killed the identity of fang feng bei and goes back to xiang Liu. He knows hes gonna die so he doesn't reciprocate her feelings. The hope was never there.
