Finally got to see the ending and I have to agree with everyone else.Wth was the series producer thinking? What…
I feel the same way when I first watched the ending...it was like “That’s it?” however reading comments here, made me watch the ending again, made me realise several thing I haven’t noticed before.
1. Han Yunniang married to Yanyi, making her the first & only empress to him up to the date. However because of what happened she left him, he declared her as dead, making it less complicated for her.
2. It was her first day returning to the city after leaving the palace 3 years ago, so she just find out abt the king sending Miss Chu away for political marriage, & him still being single & perhaps still waiting for her.
3. Li pavilion, her favourite hang out place has change name to Know About Food, a name she made up playfully when she was with Yanyi...also the owner of the restaurant happened to be Yanyi’s follower, also the man who got entangled with the mixed up bride & married Miss Qin instead. So I realised that’s why she gave her pendant, as it was the most valuable item to her, to the owner’s newborn son, since she has made Miss Qin her as legal sister. The first time I watching I didn’t understand why she gave it away & thought perhaps she has move on from the king but now I realised, to her now the only living family she has was Miss Qin, the one she never really met but she adopted during the marriage chaos.
3. She was emotionally beaten up & devastated when she left the palace. She wasn’t in her right mind to hear & forgive anyone, although she eventually heard the truth from Wang Er. But seeing her return to the city, more calm, seems like she has make peace with her situation & is ready to meet Yanyi, which is why she was alert when she heard the children calling for king. And she seems surprised but happy too when she heard he was still single.
4. A glimpse of him made her smile because she just returned to the city & he already sensed it
So I just conclude its a matter of time for Yanyi to meet Han Shi Yi/Yunniang, gave her a new identity & marries her as his 2nd empress, which made his first & 2nd empress is the same person with different identity
Finally gathered my guts to watch the ending. I can understand how they shot it but it is still unsatisfying.…
When first watched the ending, I was like “That’s it?” An open ending like that? Then start thinking, she gave away her pendant, does that mean she’s letting go of Yanyi? But her smile at the end, when saw a glimpse of Yanyi made me feel she gave her pendant to the restaurant owner on purpose. Shi Yi was being mischievous again. She suspected Yanyi would have something to do with the restaurant because of its name, so she’s playing games again with him...and true enough he noticed it right away & came looking for her. And maybe its her way hinting to him, she’s back. Also before that she went around town listening to gossip abt the new king & was very pleased when she head he send Miss Chu away in a political marriage. Perhaps Yuanyi let her leave the palace, for to grieve for her family & friends since he can’t reveal the truth yet. Now 3 years later, she has emotionally healed, his mourning period is over, she returned to the city, cleverly hinting to him she’s back...
