This comment section deserves an applause. how this drama managed to do the impossible and have a 99% positive…
So true! You stated it well! Thank you so much. The wonderful vibe in this comment section shows that audiences genuinely crave substance over superficiality. It is incredibly refreshing to watch a drama that doesn't rely on 'idol image worship' or hyper-polished 'porcelain doll' visuals to hide a weak plot. Instead, we are all captivated by a real storyline and a magnificent female lead (FL) who embodies what it means to be 'wild grass'—resilient, unyielding, and surviving against all odds."
Such beautiful words of appreciation for this captivating drama! You stated it well!
Yes, very good observation! Tan Songyun is indeed the perfect actress to portray the role of Lan Xiang here. She truly know her boundaries, for she knew how it is to be wronged and to suffer terribly. This storyline of this engaging drama captures the very essence of this strong quote." The Best Revenge is To Live Well". And our FL is showing how it is to be.
As for me and with my associates who worked in the legal industry, this is our first and very best Chinese Drama of the Year! Loving everything of it! 💖💖💖
I completely agree with you. The title Against the Current is so meaningful because it captures not only Shen…
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing the same insights! Your words are profound and thought-provoking, too, For even in this modern society, most of us are also swimming against the current of of so many aspects of our human lives.
I have been reflecting on why this engaging drama was titled "Against the Current".
Here are my insights: ** This captivating drama is aptly titled "Against the Current: because it serves as a profound dual metaphor for swimming against the cruel tide of fate and consciously refusing to swim with a corrupt, unjust society. ** Its poetic Chinese title, "Lan Xiang Ru Gu", translates beautifully to "The Orchid Fragrance Remains as Before"—signifies that Shen Jialan's core virtue and purity cannot be washed away by tragedy—the English title, "Against the Current" focuses on her active, daily battle to survive with her soul intact, morally and with dignity.
**** When a story is written this well, as like this drama—and acted by professionals like Tan Songyun and Liu Xueyi who care about the craft—every single detail, right down to the title, has a purpose. It acts as a beautiful reminder for the audience that even when the tides of life are completely overwhelming, we still have the power to choose how we swim. ****
Hence, my associates and I, who worked in the legal industry, considered this drama as: "Our Very Best Chinese Drama for the Year, 2026!"

C-netz so traumatized by idol drama tropes that they thought there did be a whole spinning/slow-mo hugging sequence…
Wow, so true! You spot it on!
It’s hilarious how fans of Chinese dramas, are all been conditioned to brace themselves for the dreaded slow-motion spinning hug. It is incredibly refreshing to watch a normal, realistic drama where characters behave like real human beings. This drama, "Against the Current" completely respects the audience's intelligence, and that's exactly why it's breaking records right now!
This is my first and full C-drama for 2026 and our Best C-Drama for the Year!

Amazing words to describe a slow-burn romance. I loved your words here: "I dont think he 'likes' her yet at this stage but u can feel the budding romantic love. much like a seedling beginning to sprout. this is a fresh breath of air from the other cdramas i have watched recently. Your words are like a metaphor . . . for it can open to further reflection. You stated it so well.
Truly indeed, for me and for my associates watching this engaging drama. this is our "Best Chinese Drama for the Year". and my first full Chinese Drama to watch for 2026. - It cannot be compared to those other Chinese dramas where the main casts were liked only due to their physical appearances, not by their acting abilities.
That look of surprise and admiration when faced with such an ingenious mind… He definitely had a little flutter…
