I wanted to love it so bad, but the cliches killed the show for me. I really really really wish I loved it because I think the FL is a great character, and I always love seeing female characters basically kick ass at whatever they're doing, but agh, the writing was so hard to not get annoyed by.
I think I overlooked or misunderstood something but why was the head of the PTA (the other ex-career woman mom)…
From my understanding the PTA was a way for her to have power over people + she was unsatisfied in her own life being just a housewife. In the episode, it's also said she's the one that's been on it the longest, so she has history and a sort of "I'm the most experienced one here" vibe. The PTA was kind of the only place she had that she "made her own." Akiko was also "threatening" the usual ways the PTA functioned. Having a newcomer all of a sudden do that is gonna piss some people off. Japan also has a very strong hold of "keep doing it the way it's always been done" even if its inefficient. The PTA women kind of functioned on all of these factors. And the other women didn't want to speak up because of the power she held over them + the culture. Also, for plot reasons it made a good, common enemy Akiko could face.
