This drama is the one who gives fond memories in my difficult times.
I know not everyone can love the same drama.I accept this drama is not perfect in any way,but I love it in spite of its flaws.

Heard that PHS is the one who is bullied by her supposed victims ( kind of her old friends ) allegations. If it is true, jealousy may be one of the factors.

I have also watched BBJX ( K version Moon lover ) which is similar to RSC and that female MC chose the other way ( aka to leave her beloved emperor ) and she was never happy after that either.
I think DI will be the same. After all, she had been separated from him for one year & when she saw the possible reality of him forgetting her in his heart and taking another woman during that time , she seemed to be disheartened by that too.
So, I think when San gave her the choice during their first night, she went with other option of staying with him.
In novel , there is a line. 'If you are too far away, I will feel the heartache. If you are too close, I will get frightened . He is over there and I am over here. Although the heart is pounding , I will not feel regret or do anything exccessive ' translation credit to JLML 718
She is content with loving him from afar, but the condition doesn't allow her to do that anymore. If she won't become a concubine, she needs to leave the palace to avoid being used as a pawn or get out of San's sight , thus he can continue his Kingly duty.
The system and norms actually break these two love birds.
When I see these two during their marriage , I sometimes resent San, for not noticing Deok Im's loneliness and pain, while I also feel sad for him cause I know his only happiness as a man will be gone later in spite of him doing his best. Oh too much heartache.

For the romance, I love it because it started as 'Innocent love 'at first.
Their reasons for close companionship is believable . She helped him during his emotionally struggling times and he cared for her when she faced difficulties.
During his days as a crown prince , they were companions to each other, which make their social difference almost invisible.
But all of that changed when he became a king . As a king , his authories became greater but his responsibilities also became heavier.
Because he is the king , he needs a royal offspring. For that he needs to take a wife and that's his duty as a king.
If Deok Im didn't come to him, he did need to take another woman and I think this thought alone made him frustrated and San was torn between the options of using his authority as a king or wooing her with sincerity , in asking her hand in marriage. ****BRAVO to the performance of Junho.*****
He was not entirely wrong either because though she chose freedom over him that time, her heart was painful seeing her beloved with another woman. ( Remember her delightful expression at the start of ep 14 when she realized he left Wonbin's chamber because of her? )
For DI , it is either her freedom or the man she loves because unfortunately, her beloved is the King and she will never get both.
I thought RSC is the most similar to 'Scarlet heart ' BuBu Jing Xin in its execution of couple love journey as well as the ending.
In BBJX, Ruo Xi finally chose to leave Yuanzheng emperor to avoid palace conflicts at the end. But she was never happy after their separation and heart broken at the end.
In RSC, DI chose to stay with San , but she wasn't truly happy either due to the price of losing her freedom.
For both of these women, though their love for the men is so great that they can literally give up their lives , the social patriachy itself prevents them from showing these hearts . And this ultimately leads to resentment &tragedy.

Everyone thinks falling in love with a Royal , is like a Cindrella tale , but the drama shows that it may not be in old times. ( Not only in ancient Korea & China but everywhere else )
Toxic love story , true .... The drama presents it intentionally & isn't shy away from ugly truth ( like 12 years a slave ) Because the two involved, the King and his lady love, the court maid are never equal in status to begin with.
There are a lot of historical records about how much King Jeongjo loved lady Seong Uibin. He could leave records because he was the King. But we couldn't hear Lady Uibin side of story, why she really rejected the King , did she really love the King ? , etc.
So the novel author explored one of the possiblities & wrote a imaginative story based on the already collected historical facts.( they said G4 are real in history )
Back to the drama.... As the drama poster asked 'The King Loves the Court Lady, but does the Court Lady love The King ?'
Along the drama , we see her love is as great as his love for her. They are clearly into each other. So,the answer may be simple if they are not King & his court maid respectively. Today,while watching Business proposal, when I heard HaRi speech about how they were not suitable for each other and asked TM to go on blind dates, I remembered their quarrel after what DI had said about Won Bin & how San was sad and angry at her.

I actually am glad you warm up to 'Lee Se Young' . A somewhat 30 yr old playing a 18 yr teenage girl part , may look strange and awkward in early part of the drama. But at the end of the drama, when you look back, she is the brightest in her younger days as a court maid.
Lee Seyoung can portray all these emotion of Deok Im over the years. ........ We usually heal by watching their BTS videos, but hard to find subbed videos now.They have amazing offscreen chemistry too.

It is not that I dont find & enjoy other dramas entirely. I have fun with 'Chief Kim. Uncanny Counter, Devil Judge , Reset, Business proposal ' etc. But after watching 1 or 2 episodes of them, I keep returning to 'Red Sleeve'.
Now I am rewatching it another time with the excuse of watching together with my aunt.
The worst thing is how I can't get into another romance at all. It is imprinted on my mind ' How San looked at Deok Im , Hold DI , and she in vice versa .'
I have been watching 'Autumn Ballad, Under the Power, A Business proposal ' ,but I am watching ABP for two girlfriends and grandpa. While seeing the couples in AB (which I dropped for a reason) and UTP , I miss our Royal Couple and run to see them immediately & here we go again. Sigh sigh

For me , writing review serves as a reminder of why I like the show, or drop the show , especially the popular ones.
As a drama fan, I read the best rated and worse rated ones ( among the most helpful )before I choose a drama.
Comment section can be a bit troublesome cause they are full of fans , some are a little sensitive and protective of their dramas. ( me too in my fav drama section )
But any rude & insensitive fan ,who come to my review post with valid reasons for disliking the shows, I will fight to death.
Where do you rewatch behind the scenes now ? I can't find filmwuju sub anymore and JLML 718 subbed videos are password protected now.
Seyoung said 'DI who is mischievous & plays pranks over others, is similar to her' Junho said 'He is similar to Jeongjo in the way of being a strict individual.' Both are similar to their fictional characters in real life.
Watching their BTS and seeing that Seyoung always played and teased her oppa Junho, a thought comes to my mind. If San and DI were reborn now, DI may be the one who approaches San first with her playful character.

As I am a doctor , reading your comment made me worry for the patient actually. Naproxen , unlike Para & Opiate analgesic , can cause upper GI ulcer &bleeding if prescribed for longterm without GI medicine.
Hell , I havent watched the show yet , but doubt that I will enjoy the show with its medical inaccuracies.

Our royal couple at least deserves that. The Intense Gaze given by our San to his beloved Deok Im.
Still thinking the finals ratings could be much higher if MBC didn't release back to back episodes on busy holidays ( Christmas and New year ). It was such a rave on OTT platform too.
I thought they were doing this for 'Tracer' to premiere one week ahead than SBS 'Through the Darkness', but 'Tracer' is not treated well either.
