Unless I misinterpreted how Nam Da Reum acted those scenes, I'm still convinced at some point HJP really poured his heart writing those letters in the past. I re-watched ep 1 and noticed that there's a scene that he's so eager to receive Dal Mi's letter and then a scene wherein you can see that he's so relieved after reading her letter. From what I understand, those letters also bring comfort to him. Though given his character, it'll not be easy for him to understand or admit those feelings.
