This was a really good drama. I usually avoid this time period in history across the board as it is a difficult time and has a lot of trauma that triggers me. It didn't delve too deep into that tone to make it unwatchable but its a very fine line.
One of the things that bothers me most is when a second female lead (or multiple females) who claim the main lead slept with or impregnated them and he just accepts that it's possible. Even though we know (because we've seen that he didn't sleep with them and they are pregnant by some other guy or that there is no pregnancy to begin with). How does a guy not remember if he did or did not sleep with a girl. And what kind of male lead would just sleep with anything. It makes me wonder if they know how babies are even made. It's almost like if he breathed the same air with her then of course she could be pregnant.
So I went to my drop list to see what had made me drop a majority of the dramas. It turned out that when something gets on the wrong emotional track and it won't come back from it I will bail on the drama. I have a hard time with some subject matter, adultery, Japanese occupation period, rape. I would say a handful is due to lack of interest because the story wasn't going anywhere. I would say a good portion is due to poor chemistry or bad acting. I would honestly rather delete a drama if I've only watched 2 episodes then have it on my dropped list. Some of the things on my drop list are highly recommended and popular dramas. I just couldn't get past certain things; and I try to put things on my hold list for a long while before deciding to drop a drama.
I find that I do try and give a drama a decent shot. A lot of the dropped dramas are about 50% watched.
BIE can't replace Jang Hyuk, Jang Hyuk is a very experienced actor.. But he's not doing bad here.
I am a fan of this story line and have watched both the Taiwanese and Korean version. I really had hard time with the Korean remake because I felt the light comedic tone wasn't there to ease the seriousness of some of the story line. That being said I am really enjoying the Thai version. I was wondering how the cultural differences would be handled as it's very out of character for a "good" girl to end up sleeping with someone before marriage unless it's like slap/kiss rape. I am a little worried about the artistic cousin being able to pull of the 2nd lead vibe; but there is more room in the story time line for him to develop.
