Oh yea, Togawa's finger in Nozue's mouth was hot as hell. But you could tell he wanted more, which is why I wanted to see an open mouthed kiss between them at the the end. Those 2 actors were terrific overall, and truly conveyed that they were men in love.

oh woe tee... it would be a GREAT prank from j-drama to the constant outpour of complaints in comment section…
Wait, I actually thought "Old Fashioned Cupcake" did NOT treat us properly because they were juuuuust about to kiss at the end, but were interrupted by some noise in the alleyway. That scene was so frustrating. Otherwise, it was a terrific show with great chemistry.

Lmao I remember the author/screenwriter said he picked those kinds of actors on purpose, because the story was…
It doesn't matter what they look like so much as that the female lead paid TONS of attention to the cute one in high school, while NO attention to the fat one. Why did the character's tastes radically change like this? Did she suddenly get a brain transplant? It is just poor plotting and it did not work.

Thank you! I am surprised that more viewers did not also note how bad this actress is. I suppose they overlooked…
I don't know who Zendaya is. You see, I don't follow K-Pop. I am American and don't even like our own pop bands. I am in my 50's and grew up with classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin and The Beatles -- you know, bands where members could write music and play instruments. My impression of K-Pop Idols is that they lip-sync while dancing in highly choreographed acts -- ie, they are terrific dancers, but not musicians. The only reason I have even seen a K-Pop performance is that I watch tons of Asian films and, thus, I occasionally come across an Idol who has branched into acting. We see the same thing in America with pop stars like Madonna and Justin Timberlake branching into acting. Timberlake is ok, while Madonna is awful.

QUESTION

Would wiretapping from a cell phone that's in one’s jacket or pants' pocket capture people’s voices with the clarity it was portrayed to have in this show? Wouldn’t the phone’s recording device be too far from their mouths and, thus, capture a lot of static? And wouldn’t the sound go in and out when the person moved?. Now, I don’t know tech so I could be wrong about this. Am I?

it gets going after 4 eps man ...for me the best drama I have ever seen..but it's up to u if u wanna give it another…
"I find him to be "good" to a degree that actually, often HURTS those around him. There is more than a dollop of neurosis driving Dong Hoon's behavior."

That's a fascinating take on his character, because I have seen this in real life. My mother, for instance, was known in the community as a saint who organized charities and took in foster kids, and was generally just warm and kind. However, while doing all this charity work and fostering all these stray kids, she sacrificed what little time and attention she already had for her own 10 kids. I was particularly jealous of the attention she gave one foster kid who lived with us for 2 years who was molested by her stepfather. The girl was my age and super popular at school cuz she was gorgeous. Then I'd go home and she was getting all my mother's attention too (eg, dealing with the girl's social workers, extending family, etc). But I could not complain because that would make me a "bad" person. After all, fostering a girl who'd been molested was a "good" thing to do.

Ok, so I get the concept of how doing good deeds can sometimes hurt those around them. But can you give me some examples from the show? The only example I have is that he paid more attention to his brothers and mother than to his wife. Sure, he was doing all good deeds for his brothers, but doing so was at the expense of giving attention to his wife. What other examples are there?

I remember when you dropped this show, because I'm the one who recommended that you watch it in the first place, lol. I was very surprised that it did not grab you back then, but it must have been your mood, or something back then that made you crave a quicker pace (the pacing actually is too slow in parts, and it could've been a 14 ep show, not a 16). Or maybe it was the horrendous acting of the female lead. That put me off at first too. At any rate, I'm glad you checked it out again and enjoyed it. It's one of my fave Korean dramas.

Watched this drama after the ML's death. All I've to say is the supporting female characters and the male lead…
Thank you! I am surprised that more viewers did not also note how bad this actress is. I suppose they overlooked it because she's a pop star and, as such, they have lower expectations. So they're impressed if a pop star even puts in a merely serviceable performance. I commented on this above, if you want to scroll up and see.

I basically said that IU wears precisely one expression for the entire 16 episode show -- which is to say, the sullen, sulking expression of a teenager whose mom just told her she can't borrow the car. And it's not as if the director told her to act this way, because she wears the exact same sullen, sulking expression in a movie by a different director, "Broker." She clearly thinks that when she's called upon to star in a show/movie all she has to do is show up to the set, cop a sullen, sulking expression and -- voila! -- she's acting.

Someone told IU that pretending you're on heavy doses of Librium and never changing your expression is "acting."…
Yep, she had precisely one expression for the entire show. Which is to say, the sullen, sulking expression of a teenager whose mom just told her she can't borrow the car. One might think, well, the director told her to act this way. Nope. Because she wears the exact same expression in a movie by a different director, "Broker." She ruined that movie, just as she alllllmost ruined "My Mister." Thankfully, "My Mister" has an otherwise splendid cast, an interesting plot and, most significantly, a gorgeous theme about what it means to be a good person.

The male lead has such solid ethics that he does good deeds while making sure that nobody knows he's the one who did them (eg, he gives his brother money by pretending he just happened to have gift vouchers lying around when, in fact, he's the one putting money in the vouchers). He does not do good deeds to get praise, appreciation or ego gratification. He does good deeds simply for the sake of being good.

The show portrayed how this man's ethics are the key to being a good person. This splendid theme, combined with a terrific cast seasoned in their craft, saved the show from being ruined by the one actor who was NOT seasoned in her craft. She had no craft at all. Just that one expression. She clearly thinks that when she's called upon to star in a movie/show all she has to do is cop a sullen, sulking expression and -- voila! -- she's acting!

Loved this masterpiece!
I know! I watched it twice in a row. The first time I watched it for the visceral experience. The second time I was more analytical, and noted how by the end, the Cop had become the same kind of rabid dog that the Hit Man was at the start. The crossover was so seamlessly directed and acted that I simply craved seeing those 2 character arcs in action again.

Umm, yea, that's why I posted the question in the first place. Or do you not understand why people post questions? At any rate your reply is useless. The person Myles_L, however, gave an excellent translation and explanation. That is how a person should answer questions. You should read all Myles_L's replies, because that person seems to know the language and culture and, therefore, gave me an effective answer. All you did was tell me I was asking a question when, duh, that's already obvious.

They were talking about family, as in relation. I don't remember the exact word, but WQ sees ZY as little brother…
I had considered that it was about the 2 of them not being in an incestuous relationship, but WQ does not even know yet that he's the one ZY is crushing on (as you said, he's in denial). Hence, the comment made no sense.

My second theory is more in line with Light L's above -- which is that Asians regard adopted kids as 2nd class anyway. So WQ's saying, in effect, "Well it's ok for adopted boys to be gay because society looks down them anyway."

I am a 55 yr old American and can tell you that even Americans still looked down on adopted kids 45 years ago. Families would keep it some deep, dark secret if their children were adopted. Thankfully, the West got over this hang-up in the Post Vietnam War Hippie Era of the late 70's.

Why did WQ tell WZY in Ep 5 that being gay was only ok for "an adopted brother"? At which point WZY replied "I AM addopted" as if WQ's comment made sense, when it did not??

What the heck does being adopted have to do with being gay???

I'm loving this show because there's something about childhood friends blooming into adult lovers that speaks to me. It's why I loved "Uncontrolled Love: Secret of the Valet" so much. They were also non-biological "brothers" in that show -- which really means just 2 boys who grew up together. The narrative of neither show presented a case where parents adopted the boy as an infant and, instead, the boys were already about 8 when they met in "Uncontrolled Love." Meanwhile, the boys in"Unknown" were already about 11 and 14 when they met. In short, nothing feels incestuous in either show because they were too old when they met to conceive of themselves as genuine relations.

Finally, I gotta say that all the boys in this show are gloriously gorgeous. But my fave face belongs to the younger version of Wei Qian. He has these bright Elvin eyes that turn up at the outer edges. Did anyone else think that kid had the lovely eyes of an Elf? I could stare at him all day, lol.
