The boys have learned to kiss from Season One. That was a closed mouth kiss in Season One, while this was open mouthed. They looked comfortable with each other as actors. Bravo!
Like most here, I think ep 5 lost the way. It needs to get back to our leads because, dang, those two have heat! In fact, their sex scenes were so hot that they were censored on most streaming sites. When you have two actors daring to go this far for a show, then give them more screen time together.
I'm so pleased to see the kid from Takara & Amagi getting a lead role in this, because he was a much better actor than either of the leads in that show. In fact, both kids who played the BFF's in that show were better than both the leads, and now we see it with this kid in Jack O'Frost and the other kid in Eternal Yesterday.
Worshipping someone is a kind of objectification. This would be why Kiyoi is so angry. Moreover, Hira's inability to understand Kiyoi -- and his desire to remain in a place of not understanding -- is infuriating to a lover.
Assuming they go together which I doubt, not as a couple for sure.
They will have been together for about 3 years by then. Thus, it would be weird (and disappointing), if Kiyoi pretends not to be friends with Hira. Also, I can't imagine why the filmmakers would've added this old gang if they were going have the scene ignore Hira's and Kiyoi's status. Especially cuz young people in Japan are cool with the status of being gay. Buy hey, who knows, right? We gotta wait until next week.
Hey, I just noticed in the preview for next week that Hira and Kiyoi are at a party with all the kids from high school! That wasn't in the book, but I really like this addition. Indeed, I had wondered what the old gang from high school would think if they ever saw the "Class King" with the boy they called "Stutz."
kiyoi doesn't want to be display it just wants to be treated as an equal to hira. he was keeping quiet until hira…
One, Hira's parents came up organically in a convo as a result of Hira's cousin visiting. Meanwhile Kiyoi's parents did not come up in conversation (ie, Kiyoi is not talking about anyone meeting his own parents because they never came up in conversation).
Two, the people in the play all know that Kiyoi is dating Hira (Koyama, the other gay actor and Koyama's brother). We'll see next week that the photographer also knows. We'll also see that Kiyoi tells Anna (this is indicated in the trailer for season two). They all know because Kiyoi tells them all that Hira is his boyfriend.
Three, Kiyoi did not push Hira to do the contest but picked up on something Koyama started. And just like Koyama, Kiyoi assumed it would be good for Hira's self esteem to win something. That's a fair assumption. Kiyoi also said to Hira, "If you turn pro in this industry then you don't have to worry about interviews again" (ie, about stuttering on interviews). In other words, he was being protective of Hira. Moreover, Hira is about to graduate college and needs a career. One does not go to college to work in a factory putting a single chestnut on a cupcake.
Four, GagaOOlala had mistranslated "kimo" to mean "gross" when, in fact, it means "creepy." Last season they mistranslated kimo to mean "disgusting" which was even worse. Meanwhile, Viki translated it correctly as "creepy" and it made a huge difference. Because, well, Hira IS creepy, lol. Alas, most people watched GagaOOlala's version and, thus, hated Kiyoi because they heard "disgusting."
Five, Kiyoi is conflicted about wanting Hira to worship him while simultaneously wanting him to treat him normally. We saw this at the end of Season 1 when Kiyoi said, "I am not a god, ok?" but then on the bike ride home Kiyoi admitted he liked that Hira worshipped him so much he even saved his change back in high school. Kiyoi's conflicted attitude is what makes him interesting (ie, it's the old story about how what we love is also what we hate). Ultimately, Kiyoi doesn't mind being stared at like an idol as long as his boyfriend also shows basic human empathy. And all humans should know that it hurts to hear that your lover doesn't want you meet his family.
Pretty sure the movie is going to be the rest of the 2nd book. I haven't read the third one and it's been a while…
Oh, I think you are right and that crying scene is for the movie trailer. Do you have a link for it? Cuz now I cannot find the movie trailer at all and can only find the series trailer.
If the kidnapping is going to be in the movie, then the series was really just a teaser with a set up rather than a full plot arc. For instance, they introduced Anna's crazy stalking fan, but we shan't see the repercussions of his craziness for another 6 months when the film is out.
But in the book, Kiyoi's crying over Hira is how they get back together. Without that, the boys would still be separated. Do you think the series will end with them broken up still?

The trailer shows Kiyoi crying and distraught while running into Hira's arms who clutches him. That struck me as the scene of Hira freeing Kiyoi from the kidnapper, such that Kiyoi then runs into Hira's arms while crying and distraught. There is no other scene in book 2 that would make Kiyoi cry. We just got the only other crying scene in today's ep. So that crying & running into Hira's arms scene in the trailer must be from the kidnapping scene, right? But hey who knows, lol.
Because you are right about Anna and the other photographer not being covered yet. And we know that they must cover Hira getting a job with that famous photographer cuz the actor was shown in the intro credits.

But all that's left from the 2nd book is for the fan to kidnap Kiyoi and Hira to rush and save him -- whereupon Hira gets stabbed, Kiyoi sobs for him at the hospital, and the boys are back together. The end.
I could tell from the trailer that this is going to be included in the series, so it'll be next week. That doesn't leave anything else from the 2nd book.
It's odd, but the word is spelled with both and "s" and a "c". Prophesy or Prophecy. That happens with words that are both British and American (eg, colour and color).
Hira was so convinced he was unworthy of Kiyoi that he persisted in behaving in non empathetic ways which eventually, of course, truly did make him unworthy of Kiyoi. In short, he fulfilled his own prophesy of unworthiness.
Ep 3 covered a lot from the book, and now leaves only the big finale for next week. So the question is, what shall they cover in the 2 hour movie? Will it cover the plot from the 3rd book in the trilogy? I read the CD transcripts for the 1st and 2nd book, but the 3rd is not out in English. Can someone who's read it in Japanese tell me what the plot is? Are the boys much older?
In the novel, Kiyoi says let's break up, but only as a bluff hoping Hira will beg him not to end it. But dopey Hira says, "Ok, I'll leave." Hira's attitude is "I'll do anything my king commands." Then they hook up again at the end, but I won't spoil that cuz their getting back together will happen the same way in the show as in the novel (I could tell based on the trailer).
Plus, Kiyoi is working full time as an actor and gets home too late to cook and clean. Hira, so far, does not…
I knew you didn't mean Koyama, but viewers were seeing Kiyoi the same way that Koyama did -- ie, as a moocher making Hira work. In fact, Hira is just a househusband. And he likes it.
Kiyoi always fails to explain the situation.
Oy, these two!
