is winwin's character really cisha's character's son?
No. Chen Xuanqing is Chen Sanye's son jn the novel, but in the drama, they'd have to change it. Maybe a brother or cousin relationship. While Ye Xian is a respected and highly recognized official

Oh, I'm so excited for this drama to air. I've seen Ren Min's in The Lonely Warrior, and she ate! This kind of role is an easy peasy for her.

Title Ray of Light
Ray Of Light
Casts: #RenMin, #WangYuan, #GouJingfei
Genre: Inspirational youth drama
Episodes: 24
Personal rating: ♾️/10

People might think I'm exaggerating but this drama is truly the best drama I've ever watched in my entire life. I've grown fond of the characters and I don't think I can even move on with how they made me feel. The last drama I've watched where I loved all the characters, be it the villains or the main leads is #SongOfGlory and up until then, I hadn't find one drama that could satisfy my craving to dramas with lovable characters. I don't know but I really love all the characters in Ray Of Light, even Li Laoshi whom I find annoying but I do understand her sentiments tho.

So, the story evolve around class 14 and their struggles in life. Among all the classes in grade 12, class 14 is considered to be in the "bottom" type because most of them don't excel in any subjects. They were looked down, oftentimes humiliated, discriminated and even treated differently, but this changed when Hao Laoshi was accepted in Qingyun. There, class 14 strived hard to achieve a goal for themselves and the maltreatment against them stopped.

Strong points

• Plot
I've already watched a lot youth dramas but I don't think there's a drama that can compare to Ray Of Light. The plot is well-written to the extent that I was wondering how did the writer get the ideas of growing up and turned it into script. The way they introduced every characters in a not so fast paced manner, up to the way they slowly solved every conflict in a nice and clean way. Personally among all the seven stories, I think #GaoYuan's part was one difficult to solve, because you can not just tell him to cheer up, and forget everything. It took a lot of time to convince someone who's struggling the same about moving on. People like Gao Yuan and his parents need understanding and empathizing with them. I love the fact that the script writer took time in changing his character into this "lonesome Gao Yuan" to this "smiling Gao Yuan".

I also want to point out how the drama captured the idea of growing up in a very cruel way, in such a thing that every viewers can relate to, be it parents, students, teachers, outsiders and etc. Growing up was never easy, and people have different way of coping up with this. When Ren Zhen failed the examination, she got lots of thoughts, and one way was to enroll in another course, but life made it's way for her to get what she really wanted by repeating grade 12 in Qingyun. Her coping up mechanism is to isolate herself in a box and never let anyone in because she thinks everyone is a distraction, but little did she knew, this so called distraction would be one of her strong inspiration to survive. One reason why she didn't give up, was her parents. Her mother who strived hard for her, and her father who may not be the best one, but she truly love.

Actually, there's a lot to tell in this drama, but I only highlighted the best ones.

• Genre
When watching a drama, I always have my own genre and my favorite one is slice of life. One good reason why I love this drama, is "it's touch of life". This genre is not everyone's cup of tea, and definitely, not everyone can understand the "slice of life" theme. Some prefer romance, but I don't really watch romance that much because I couldn't relate to it, plus romance is just 1% of life, I believe.

Despite the drama being "inspirational youth drama", it didn't fail to match up some characters. The chemistry between Gao Yuan and Ren Zhen is so good that I couldn't get enough of them. The idea of 10 cm is actually so funny and cute. The loveline is not even long, nor emphasized but with the way Gao Yuan looked at Ren Zhen you can already feel the immense love he had for her, and with the way she cares for him, you will already know that she admires him a lot. The both of them don't need to touch, they just had to stare at each other, smile and you'll be in love with them.

Another thing is the unexpected bloom of Wang Fang and Xiaoxiao's relationship. I was expecting for Xia Fan and Wu Kai's tho. In the later part of the drama, I didn't expect how deep their relationship is. The way he cried for her, what am I even gonna do now? I can't forget that part.

I love the way they put short but memorable loveline. Maybe not given emphasis, but it was heartfelt.

• Osts
I don't know if someone talked about it already, but I really love every osts in this drama. It was so meaningful that oftentimes while I was watching, I would repeat the scene and closed my eyes and listen to it. The fact that the opening ost was sung by Wang Yuan made it more worst for me to move on. I keep remembering that lines in the ost everytime Gao Yuan and Ren Zhen shows up, like how can they make it harder for me? The bgm when the class 14 are having fun, biking, laughing, and smiling while forgetting that each one of them had to deal the difficulty of growing up. I suddenly wanna watch every biking scenes while sobbing over it.

The osts are the songs I wanna keep playing when I'm bored, happy, lonely, and when I'm mad.

• The casts and their characters
I wanna commend the casting team for casting Gou Jingfei and the whole class 14. Like, I've watched a clip in weibo, that scene where all of them are crying for Hao Laoshi, even those students who were instructed to just stand there were crying with the casts. The ambiance felt so real that all of them are crying. 🥺 I know, Ren Min can nail any angsty roles, but I didn't expect the other casts to reach my expectations. Wang Yuan is good at facial expressions to be honest. The way he incorporate loneliness just by staring at nothing, and the way his eyes sparkles while looking at Ren Zhen, it was one good sight. Despite the fact that most of the characters are amateurs, they did nail their roles. I wanna take note of #LuQi as Wu Kai, he ate his scenes, like how come he's so good at that? The way his eyes reddened, and his breathings while showing us that "traumatized" look, it was so well-acted. To be honest, I love his episode so much.

The good thing about Ray Of Light is the fact that all of the characters, even the parents, and the teachers didn't give me the "fake" vibes, it all look so real.

• The story line
The story will be nothing without Hao Laoshi, like this drama clearly revolves around him and how he slowly turned class 14 into the best version of themselves. Everytime he speaks, he tells something, my eyes was always focused on him. I love everything he says and how he says it without offending anyone. He sounded so pure and emphatizing. His whole episode made a lot more sense, especially that svene when he wanted to give up teaching again because he couldn't move on from that "s" incident. Like, I know it was never his fault, but back then, he could have done something, at least something to prevent that incident from happening, but unfortunately he hadn't. But what amazes me is how he turned that "trauma" into his "redemption".

I love the fact that each of the seven stories presented in the drama differs with one another and how it perfectly describes the society we're living in. Though the setting is in 2012, it didn't fail to capture the discrimination against students who don't excel in classes. Even up until now, it happened and probably will never end.

The way they make the characters realistic, to the point that every punch that Jia Kun received in that one particular scene were all real. You wouldn't believe it, but in the bts, it was all real, in fact the one acting as his father kept on asking him if he's okay that day.

• Life lessons.
There are a lot life lessons presented in the drama, like how Ren Zhen didn't even think of giving up despite all the bull she had in life. Surviving in a not so broken family, and trying to understand her parents' decision as such young age. She was emotionally unstable, but she with stand that. It gives the viewers a positive view to failures and family issues. It's okay to try again, and again. You can only say that something is worth it, if you never give it up.

Gao Yuan's episode teaches us not to dwell on the past too much. It's okay to be mad, but isolating yourself against the world won't even help. Moving on is difficult, especially when it comes to losing an important person, but you can't stay in that state forever. Opening up is not easy, but slowly, everyone has to try it. It will not cost you a lot.

Wang Fang's episode teaches us how to appreciate the people around us. It's okay not to trust people but declining their affection and care is not okay. His step mother is not a bad person, but because of trust issues, he couldn't look at her the same way his father sees her. Same goes to when he kept on not trusting Hao Laoshi.

Jia Kun's episode tells us that not every relationship is a distraction to one's studies. Sometimes, it's an inspiration, and it is always dependent on the people involved in a relationship if they will be a distraction or an inspiration to each other.

Xia Fan's episode tells us that everyone is different. Everyone has their own color and light. Everyone is beautiful on their own way and we shouldn't always rely on other's standards of beauty. It also addreses the impact of body shaming and face shaming and how it destroys someone's self-esteem.

Wu Kai's episode tells us a lot, first the effect of bullying and how it traumatizes one person's life. Second is when choosing a life, it should always be decided by oneself. And last, when standing up for others, make sure, you won't be harmed. The whole episode with Wu Kai is like watching "Cry Me A Sad River" again, and it hurts seeing this kind of thing even up until this day, on social media. (I remember all the bullies that Ren Min has been receiving recently).

Xiaoxiao's episode teaches us not to tire ourselves out. It's okay to rest sometimes. Working hard is great, but working too much is not advisable. The way she always look so tired and sleepy in class, I feel so bad for her.

Qiangqiang's episode is not that emphasized, but out of the seven stories, his is the most relatable one. When students are in high school, they often have that confusion in their heads. Like, what do I even want? It often happens in grade 12 where most students are having a hard time seeking for their passion in life.

And lastly, the thin line between Hao Laoshi and Li Laoshi and how they impeccably describe the two type of teachers (this is just based on my own view). Hao Laoshi is the type of teacher who is strict, but is willing to listen and understand his students and their inner selves. Meanwhile, Li Laoshi is the type of teacher who is a lot stricter (lol), but she's good at understanding her students outer self. They may have different approach in dealing their students, but I truly admire them. Li Laoshi is annoying sometimes but she is doing her job, obeying the rules and not letting her students from overstepping.

I swear, Hao Laoshi will forever be remembered as he made history in youth dramas.

• Relatable and Realistic characters
The characters are relatable and the scenes are executed realistically. Even the ending is so satisfying that I had a hard time accepting it. Parting is part of life, and it's really painful to let go of the people whom you want to keep. But life is life, it's difficult, but you had to. Some lost contact of their friends, some still have the bonds, but always remember the memories you had with those people.

• Societal issues
I also want to point out how this drama addresses a lot of societal issues (like bullying, physical ab*se, verbal ab*se, broken family, body/face shaming, self-isolation, etc) in a way wherein they will not offend people. Bullying can be f*tal, and it destroys someone's life, and can cause a life long trauma. Body/face shaming can cause someone to lose their self-esteem. If you want to know more, you better watch it yourself.
• Over all physical appearance
To be honest, I thought Ray Of Light is just another low budgeted drama, but when someone pointed out that it was changed from s-class to s+ class, I was having doubt. How come this one becomes s+? But looking at the over all appearance of the drama, I can say, it is indeed a s+ drama. All the budget goes to the camera, the angles, the shots, and the cinematography. Omo! I really love how cinematographic this drama is. The way they shot lots of angles, like even the backs of the characters amazes me.
Also, the filter they used gives the whole drama the realistic vibes it needed. It emphasizes the color of life.

• Finale
People can say anything they want, but I really love how Ray Of Light ended. It's not too dramatic nor extravagant, but it ended beautifully where all of the characters found their happiness and all of them doing their best to contribute to the society. Given the fact that it's not a "romance-inclined" drama, the ending is satisfying. Gao Yuan and Ren Zhen may not have seen each other for 10 years, but at least, it ended where Ren Zhen is in the same plane where Gao Yuan is maneuvering. It ended with them, in the same plane, breathing the same air, the two of them are both happy with their lives. Not everything is about happy ending, sometimes it's about how satisfying the ending is.

Final review:
Personally, this drama sets another standard for me and I don't think I'll ever find another drama similar to this. The amount of emotions I was able to let out while watching every episodes is so abundant that it spills. I remember crying every episodes, be it the characters crying, or be it them, laughing. I cry all the time and I don't even understand why. Maybe, because I grow fond of them and I don't want to let them go yet.

No words can explain how much I love this drama. Literally no one can describe how I feel right now.

Wait a minute so did she recover that imagining cheng yin or not? Guys it seems like I missed out something.
When she had threat of miscarriage, she heard Chengyin's voice for the last time. That's an indication that Wuyan is letting go of Cheng Yin's memories. In the novel, Yinyin bid her goodbye to Wuyan.

I love how the script writer made Sang Wuyan. It isn't idiotic to forgive and forget. Forgiving is not easy. It will take a lot of time to do that. Only those with strong hearts can do that. It isn't inferiority when women love more than men. Do love needs to weigh who loves more? Isn't it idiotic to dwell on the past and keep isolating yourself away from everyone cause you can't forgive? Pushing everyone away is not salvation. One can only save themselves by moving forward step by step.
