Why would they waste the money though? China has 1.4 billion people so there’s obviously an audience. iQiyi and Tencent are all China exclusive so how are they gonna let the rest of the world watch it? I mean they can’t just uploaded it on YouTube for free? Views aren’t bring enough profit if the show flops in China. They need a medium to show it to people. Netflix likely already had the rights before the show started airing and had planned to release it after the show was finished in China but they needed to make some kind of profit with the low ratings. I think you’re underestimating the power of Netflix. It’s available all over the world and has a wide audience reach. Since it’s gonna be a Netflix original, more people are gonna check it out, especially non-cdrama fans. I already saw people on Reddit commenting on the trailer and saying they might check it out. And for the first part of your, comment, it’s call building up hype. People put hard work into the product so of course they’re raving about it and trying to get everyone to see it. Free sites like Kissasian or Ondramanice will upload the subs once Netflix releases it so there’s that. I mean, taste is subjective. So even if you don’t like the show, others do and I don’t see the problem with people saying how much they like the show or treating it like it “contains the secret of eternal life”.
